SUMMARY OF THE PROJECT This project is part of ASTOVOT’s every summer approaches to ameliorate life conditions in rural areas. These approaches consist among other things in initiating micro-projects to arrange and renovate health infrastructures. The choice of the village of Klomanyondi is due to a diagnosis realised by the team of the ASTOVOT coordination. It’s an isolated village in the prefecture of Kloto. The public equipment and infrastructure is almost always damaged, among it is the health care centre. This workcamp will give the possibility to renovate the building of the centre. Beside the renovation activities, the volunteers will organise, in cooperation with the medical corps of this centre, public as well as “door to door” campaigns to fight STI’s/AIDS. AIMS OF THE WORKCAMP General aims The aim of this summer workcamp is to ameliorate the health infrastructure in rural areas by renovating the health care centre of Klomanyondi. Specific aims – Arrange and renovate the building of the health care centre; – Organise campaigns to fight STI’S/AIDS; – Enhance the intercultural exchange between volunteers and the local population. WORK TO DO – The volunteers will arrange the site of the health care centre; clean up, whitewash, and paint the interior and exterior walls; – they will plan the campaigns of sensitization, identify the target groups, prepare the instruments of sensitization, organise the walks and units of sensitization in the village and its surroundings – The volunteers will organise cultural activities in order to create a good atmosphere to facilitate the exchanges
ACCOMMODATION The housing conditions are generally rudimental. The volunteers will be accommodated together in a single house with several bedrooms (usually 2 to 4 rooms). They will reside near the project site. Volunteers will sleep on mats made of plastics or straw. But they can buy or bring along small airbeds or little floor-mats, and a mosquito net… In addition to the project activities, the volunteers can organize rides, meetings with local communities, parties, and excursions in the surrounding villages. NB: Internet access and Electricity are limited according to areas of the project. FOOD Volunteers will cook and eat together their meals. In the kitchen, they will use the local products. There are many various vegetables and fruits in location, so vegetarian and vegan diets can be continued. NB: Clean drinking water available.
Situated at around twenty kilometres south-west of the city of Kpalimé and behind the village of Womé, Klomanyondi is a little enclosed, near to the Ghanaian-Togolese border. Housing 1000 inhabitants this village lives essentially of agriculture. The agriculture is based on the crop growing of corn, green beans, manioc, yam, and rice. A primary and a high school take in a charge the many young people that live in Klomanyondi (very high youth rate) and the circumjacent villages. This area is very attractive considering the welcoming population, the natural finished environment with its water courses and tropical plants (palm, coffee, cacao plantations and many more…)
