Samen met 14 andere vrijwilligers ga je voor 18 dagen naar een onderwijs en sociaalproject.
Het project duurt van 16 juli t/m 3 augustus.
Let op: naast het inschrijfgeld betaal je ter plekke nog een lokale bijdrage van € 250.
• Open discussions and debates. • Holding workshops on HIV/AIDS Prevention and care. • Lectures on HIV/AIDS counseling and care for parents/children. • Visit Post Test AIDS clubs. • Performing forum theatre on HIV/AIDS prevention and care. • Conducting interactive sports with local communities. • One-day public dialogue.
Accommodation: • The accommodation shall be providing within Abongo Women’s Group premises. Participants shall be required to carry along own clothing, boots, sleeping mats, bags and mosquito nets. • The campsite shall have simple bathing shelters with no showers. • The campsite shall have pit latrines not toilets. • A simple cooking shelter (Kitchen) Food: • There are several local foods to choose from e.g, cassava, sweet potatoes, yams, pumpkin and also rice, spaghetti, ground nuts, beans, peas and different types green vegetables • Fruits can also be easily bought from local markets • Participants will choose food to prepare depending on the availability. • Participants will divide themselves in working groups to prepare own meals using charcoal and firewood on a fuel saving place. Note:If you need more fruits/extra meals/special diet you can get it at your own cost.
• Visit local communities in the fishing villages for forum theatre presentations. • Visit to hospital where HIV/AIDS testing is done. • Visit historical sites i.e. Wanglei Puvungu NOTE: • There are other available opportunities to visit tourist places like Murchison falls, Hot and Cool Amor pii (Panyimur) for those who can pay for themselves. • Cultural Nights will be organized on different days for the different countries represented at the workcamp. Please carry along anything that can introduce your culture.
Uganda Pioneers´ Association (UPA) is an indigenous youth voluntary Non-Government Organization (NGO) registered with the National NGO Bureau in Uganda, under ref No. S5914/114. The organization focuses on offering youths with the opportunity to contribute to community development by involving them in community projects through workcamps and international volunteer exchanges. The organisation is Not-for-Profit and does not represent any political, religious or sectarian motives.
Participants shall be required to bring own sleeping bag, mat, pillow, mosquito net, sun cream, mosquito repellent, working gloves and boots/shoes. Light working clothes during working hours and warm clothes for nights, as it may turn out to be chilly or cold; Musical instrument (optional); torch or flash light; water purifiers (optional); Personal effects (i.e. soap, toothpaste, toiletries). It would be nice if you can bring your national flag, common art facts of your country, stories, games, pictures and local recipes. It would be helpful for the cultural presentations about your country and for any social interactions. Above all do not forget a happy and positive attitude. NB: Very short skirts, dresses and shorts (above the knee) will not be culturally welcomed.
Visa: The volunteers must apply for a tourist visa online with this link. https://www.visas.immigration.go.ug/ . This should be done a couple of weeks or months before the departure date. The form requires you to fill in the address of the contact person in Uganda and you should use: ZZIWA SAMUEL MUSANYUSA, NANSANA WEST I ZONE, +256785601220. The immigration department sends you an approval document which you must print and present on arrival at the airport. The tourist visa costs 50 US $ and it is better to carry it in cash Participation fee: 250 € for international participants (this includes pick-up from the airport, food and accommodation during the stay in the camp and the on-arrival orientation). It also contributes to the running of the workcamp activities and UPA administration. Note: UPA doesn’t offer airport drop off after the workcamp but can help in identifying the service provider and the volunteer meets the costs ranging between 28-30 Euros.
