Ga aan de slag als vrijwilliger tijdens een groepsproject in Kenia. Dit project vindt plaats van 4 t/m 22 juli en biedt ruimte aan 20 deelnemers in de leeftijd van 18 t/m 75 jaar. Je gaat werkzaamheden uitvoeren gericht op landbouw.

Let op: naast het inschrijfgeld betaal je ter plekke nog een lokale bijdrage van € 265.

ARRIVAL AT THE AIRPORT
We will pick up all volunteers taking part in this workcamp from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi. The volunteers can also arrived to the nearest Airport which is Kisumu Airport. CIVS will arrange accommodation before and after the workcamp in a host family for the volunteers

ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation will be at the project in this workcamp and it is important that you have your own sleeping bag. During the workcamp, volunteers will get food from locally available foodstuffs and the volunteers will share the responsibility of preparing the food.

In this workcamp, volunteers can visit Lake Victoria at Kisumu city, which is about a 1-hour drive from the project. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to visit the Ahero rice fields, the local market or take an optional one-day trip to Kakamega Rainforest.

The Ahero Resource Centre is located in Ahero, about 25km east of Kisumu town. The Centre serves as a One-Stop-Shop, offering a variety of services to the local community. The centre is equipped with a training facility to provide capacity building on Drought Resilient Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, Early childhood Education and Computer & work readiness skills. The in-class training is complemented by practical learning on the adjacent Farmer Field School (Model Farm) which also encompasses a Greenhouse, Tree Nursery and Poultry Farm, fish pond that provide practical examples of modern farming practices as well as a source of nutrition and income for the Orphan Feeding Program.

Computer and work preparedness training is complemented with an equipped computer center. The kindergarten has 2 teachers and 75 children who are vulnerable to HIV/AIDS.The Ahero Resource Centre is also equipped with a comprehensive rainwater-harvesting infrastructure to fully utilize the short and heavy rains in the region. Additionally a borehole provides a reliable and affordable source of safe water for the community. From time to time, depending on the availability of funds, 150 school-going Orphans and Vulnerable Children get a free lunch at the centre in order to improve their concentration and school performance. The centre’s facilities have been modified to accommodate physically disabled participants hence its doors are open to such people.

WHAT TO CARRY
Volunteers are required to carry the following items for the workcamp: mosquito net, torch/flashlight, toiletries, first-aid kit, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, working gloves, sandals and sunscreen. In addition to those, volunteers can also carry the following items for interaction purposes: pictures of your country, old clothes that are no longer in use, toys, books, pens, etc.

Volunteers below the age of 18 need to bring parental agreement

CAMP FEES
Volunteers participating in this project will be required to pay 265 Euros. This cost will include:
 Airport pick up upon arrival & Airport drop off after the workcamp
 Up to 3 nights’ accommodation in Nairobi
 Introduction to Kenyan life through a Nairobi City Centre Tour before the workcamp
 Workcamp Orientation at the CIVS office in Nairobi or the workcamp site
 Food (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
 Workcamp facilitation and mentoring of volunteers by an experienced workcamp leader
 Certificate of participation for the volunteer
 All administrative costs

SAFARI OPTION

CIVS organizes safaris to all the spectacular National Parks and touristic sites in Kenya, with the main attraction being Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Volunteers who wish to go on a safari should apply at least two weeks before arrival to enable us to make proper arrangements. The fee charged is all-inclusive of meals, transport, park entry, accommodation and tour guiding.

Charges: 3-day Safari to Maasai Mara National Park, 340 Euro
