Educational activities (Study Part): The study part will be divided in four sections; The big picture: to understand why we need to be developing sustainable communities, listening to nature and celebrating life; Ecological: bioregionalism, local food and organic farming; Social: community living, diversity and building communication skills;
Economic: understanding the global versus local argument, analyzing ecological footprint.
Local residential house in the village. Mattresses will be provided in shared room, water and electricity will be available. Our kitchen-volunteer staff will be available to prepare meals however, each volunteer will be required to help in meals preparation. Vegetarian meals will be available for the entire period of the project.
The word “Marangu” means a place with too many water streams. It is one of the most popular places in Tanzania. Located at the foot of Africa’s tallest mountain, the quaint village of Marangu offers fascinating insight into both modern Tanzanian life and into the lives of the Chagga people who once withstood vicious Maasai raids through the ingenious use of tunnels. Many Marangu residents are farmers growing bananas, vegetables and coffee. However, the biggest source of income is tourism. The Marangu route is the most popular hiking route in Africa. The fact and reality of Marangu makes this place accessible with all social, economic and security facilities. You will not regret to be in Marangu, Kilimanjaro. Being in Northern Tanzania known as the capital of cultural, natural and tourist attraction you will have a good number of options:
Cultural & Eco tourism around Chagga communities in Kilimanjaro, Maasai in Arusha and the neighboring regions.
Hiking – there is a possibility of Hiking in Kilimanjaro mountain nature forest.
Wild-life safari – Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara and Tarangire National parks.
Mountain Climbing – Mount Kilimanjaro, Meru and others.
Water side relaxation – Lake Chala, waterfalls etc.
Climate change is tittle given on the current status of global warming. It has been reported that the average surface temperature of the earth has increased abnormally. The warming trend of past fifty years is estimated to be twice as much of the other past hundred years. Human activities have been major contributing factor and there is no denying that we are responsible for the state of our planet.
Marangu is a community located in the sloops of the Mount Kilimanjaro gifted with natural attractions like forest, water sources and water falls, landscapes, green vegetation throughout the year etc. Over the years the nature has been affected by human activities as results of various social and economic reasons. Various actions have been taken Government and other stake holders including voluntary service Organisations and the situation is improving. This volunteer project is aiming to continue join efforts of the volunteers and community members to work together addressing this global challenge through various actions. Volunteers actions towards climate change though in small scale has been and still expected to contribute to conservation as well inspire more people to do the same.

Non-Tanzanian volunteers are required to have business visa in order to join this project. Visa is available online and can be also obtained at the airport or other border of entry on arrival by presenting UVIKIUTA invitation letter.
