Steek je handen uit de mouwen tijdens een groepsproject in Togo. Dit project vindt plaats van 2 t/m 21 augustus en biedt ruimte aan 15 deelnemers in de leeftijd van 18 t/m 99 jaar. Jouw werkzaamheden richten zich op sociaal.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION The "Mother Teresa of Calcutta" shelter houose in Kpalimé is a local partner with which ASTOVOT carries out socio-health projects for the benefit of dozens of residents of this center. These residents are taken in by the nuns because they are in a situation of extreme poverty or because they are abandoned, therefore without a family to take care of them. Often these people do not have shelter and food and often they have chronic diseases or a disability. This summer ASTOVOT is launching an international project which will allow volunteers to bring their compassion and love to the sick and vulnerable people by participating in several activities that contribute to improving the state of health of patients and to the development of all residents. The services provided in this center are numerous, varied and free. The volunteers will have to perform several tasks: helping the nurses at the center, doing fun and educational activities with the residents, cleaning, cooking, maintenance of the site, etc. The volunteers will work under the supervision of the Nuns of the shelter house. PROJECT OBJECTIVES Main objective To contribute to the development improvement of sick and vulnerable people taken in by the reception house "Mother Teresa of Calcutta" in Kpalimé. Specific objectives - To help the staff of the center in their daily tasks for alleviate their work load, and to promote a warm atmosphere by the animation of residents and workers. - To improve the personal growth by the exchange of ideas, experiences, care, visions,... in an intercultural framework. - To learn from other realities, specially the disabilities and the way how society answer the necessities of fonctional diversity people. - To reflect about the intersectionality of subjects loike gender, poverty and disability. MAIN ACTIVITIES The volunteers take part in the activities of the center. These are many and varied.  Maintainance of the green space of the center: gardening, watering, sweeping...  Household chores: preparing and distributing meals to residents, cleaning the rooms, washing dishes…  Organization of games and fun and educational activities for the benefit of the residents.  Help the nursing staff in the care of patients : treatments, distribution of drugs, hygiene, dressing, physiotherapy, massages, etc.

Accommodatie en maaltijden

ACCOMODATION Housing conditions are generally rudimentary, simple and specific to the location of the project. On site, volunteers are accommodated in groups of three or four people per room. The distribution per room depends on the collective organization of the volunteers themselves. Depending on the location, volunteers can use dry toilets and showers without tap water. The association available to volunteers some plastic or foam mats. Volunteers can bring sleeping bags with them if possible. There is access to drinking water on the site. However, access to electricity and the internet may be limited. This is due respectively to the blackouts and the difficulties of accessing the Internet. FOOD During the entire period of the workcamp, it is the volunteers themselves who prepare their own meals. An internal organization will make it possible to create groups which will alternate to take care of the different household tasks including cooking. Food products used for cooking are both imported and local, and sometimes organic. The diet of each volunteer will be taken into account in the preparation of meals. Volunteers will have access to tropical fruits such as bananas, oranges, pineapples, mangoes, avocados, papayas, etc.

Locatie en vrije tijd

LEISURE In addition to the main activities of the site, several other activities are organized such as discovery walks, hikes, parties or cultural meetings. These activities allow volunteers to get in touch with local populations but also to discover Togolese culture. During the weekends, collective excursions are organized by the volunteers and their leaders to discover the tourist sites of the region where the workcamp is taking place. It should be noted that expenses related to excursions and outings of volunteers are not included in the participation fees. However, the association can facilitate or negotiate transport for volunteers during outings or excursions.


This project requires great compassion, patience and ethics on the part of the volunteers because it is about helping people living in difficult situations both physically and morally.
