The Ahero Resource Centre is located in Ahero, about 25km east of Kisumu town. The Centre serves as a One-Stop-Shop, offering a variety of services to the local community. The center is equipped with a training facility to provide capacity building on Drought Resilient Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, Early childhood Education, and Computer & work readiness skills. The in-class training is complemented by practical learning on the adjacent Farmer Field School (Model Farm) which also encompasses a Greenhouse, Poultry Farm, fish pond that provide practical examples of modern farming practices as well as a source of nutrition and income for the Orphan Feeding Program.
Computer and work preparedness training is complemented with an equipped computer center. The kindergarten has 5 teachers and 100 children who are either orphans or vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. Additionally, a borehole provides a reliable and affordable source of safe water for the community. From time to time, depending on the availability of funds, 150 school-going Orphans and Vulnerable Children get a free lunch at the center to improve their concentration and school performance. The center’s facilities have been modified to accommodate physically disabled participants hence its doors are open to such people.
