Volunteers will stay at the home itself. Meals will be cooked by volunteers by turns.
The school is located at Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. It is located in the city, so you can sometimes enjoy café, night market, etc. in the evening (but not till too late!).
This workcamp has been organized with Malaysian Organization of Volunteer Exchange (MOVE) since 2017 (second time in this place!). MOVE is a workcamp NGO founded in 2006, but stopped activities for some years and NICE restarted co-organizing since 2017! Lighthouse Children Welfare Home houses 75 children aged 3-21 with hard backgrounds such as alcoholic or drug addicted parents, poverty, single parent, abuse, etc. The Home is registered at the Registrar of Societies and prides itself on having adopted a family, rather than an institutional concept and a significant effort is put into bringing together siblings who have been separated in the past into this home as a family. As far as possible, all the children attend school and those who are unable to are home-schooled.
High motivation to work with the kids and to respect local culture/ way. Experience of similar type of service is welcomed!
