This workcamp has been organized with Green Volunteers for Green Future (GV4GF) since 2012 (since 2017 with this community). GV4GF is a NGO to promote voluntary service, environmental protection and improve rural life. Forests occupied 50% of the national land 20 years ago, but now only 30%. Sri Lanka is colonized by Portuguese, Dutch and British that left lots of social unrests and destroyed tradition. Strange plans were introduced incl. agricultural and educational systems called as development, but we are now suffered by these effects. We need human, sustainable and participative development to change the lives into positive and productive way. We are trying to do this with volunteers without destroying our tradition, culture and environment.
In the 1st week, volunteers will establish a plant nursery at the temple premises with the youth by cleaning the land, making pots and composts, planting seeds and seedlings, watering, etc.
