Okhaldunga is a remote district close to Mt.Everest. It has beautiful landscapes, numerous and fascinating sights.
Because of the geographical location it has limited access to services, such as schools and health care services.
That it why VIN is keep to support people in this area. VIN is also in the process of opening a Community Education Centre in this area and volunteers will be crucial in helping us to make this a success.
The main aim for this work camp is to develop and conduct a campaign to raise awareness on hygiene, sanitation and nutrition to people of all ages.
Your placement and activities:
In this work camp you will:
• Develop and conduct awareness raising campaign on hygiene, sanitation and nutrition
• You will develop and conduct workshops on how to stay healthy. This includes teaching how to wash hands properly to stop diseases from spreading and brushing teeth
These are just some examples but we rely on volunteers’ ideas to make the camp as fun as possible.
There will be one rest day in the middle of your work camp. If you’ve volunteering at a school, the Saturdays will be a rest day also.
Volunteers stay with the host family/hostel identified by VIN.
The living conditions at the host family/ hostel are simple and basic. Male and female volunteers will share the same living area but have separate sleeping rooms.
The volunteers sleep on simple beds / mattress.
Please bring your sleeping bag.
The Okhaldhunga district is 250 km from Kathmandu. It takes one-day travel by bus and it’s a hilly and mountainous region surrounded by woods and fields.
There are lots of sightseeing options in and around Kathmandu.
If you arrive early or if you’re planning on staying in Nepal after your work camp finished, VIN also organises weekends travel tours to Chitwan Jungle Safari, Pokhara, Nagarkot at an additional cost if you are interested.
