VIN recognises that ALL children have the right to education and development. That is why we work in partnership with Three Navajyoti Deaf Basic School in the village of Sindhuli (130 km from Kathmandu).
This school is the only school specialised in working with deaf children in the area and currently has 88 students, from pre-primary age to Grade 8.
There are also computer classes provided to students from Grade 6 to 8.
Our main objective is to create and facilitate fun, inclusive activities to help deaf children in their personal development.
Your placement and activities:
We need volunteers who understand the difficulties deaf children face in Nepal and who want to make a difference to deaf children’s lives by arranging creative activities, such as painting classes, drawing and other art work to help them express themselves.
Volunteers will assist the teachers in the classrooms but also help to renovate and decorate classrooms to make them a learning friendly area.
Other activities will include creative writing and sports activities
There will be one rest day in the middle of your work camp. If you’ve volunteering at a school, the Saturdays will be a rest day also.
Volunteers stay with the host family/hostel identified by VIN.
The living conditions at the host family/ hostel are simple and basic. Male and female volunteers will share the same living area but have separate sleeping rooms.
The volunteers sleep on simple beds / mattress.
Please bring your sleeping bag.
