Project information:
Historically, violence against women and girls has been widespread in Nepali society but has also been unreported to the police.
The cases that have been reported suggest that one third of married women experience emotional, sexual and physical violence from their husband or extended families. Other forms of violence against women include rape, neglect and financial abuse.
This is part of the campaign to “Say NO to Violence Against Women” which targets especially young women and community leaders.

OBJECTIVES/ AIM:
The main aim for this work camp is to raise awareness of the cycle of violence, allow women to express their concerns and share their experiences, as well as get informed about taking legal actions.

Your placement and activities:
Volunteers, together with staff members, will organise workshops to raise awareness about what to do in case of domestic violence.
The work camp is also about organising creative workshops for women to help them express themselves and their concerns.
As volunteers, you will interact with local community leaders, young women and women’s groups to facilitate open discussions on violence against women.
There will be one rest day in the middle of your work camp. If you’ve volunteering at a school, the Saturdays will be a rest day also.

Volunteers stay with the host family/hostel identified by VIN.
The living conditions at the host family/ hostel are simple and basic. Male and female volunteers will share the same living area but have separate sleeping rooms.
The volunteers sleep on simple beds / mattress.
Please bring your sleeping bag.

Location:
The work camp is based in Tarakeshwor and Okharpauwa municipality, which is situated in the outskirts of the Kathmandu District.
It is around 10-15 km from main ring road to Balaju, Kathmandu covered with hills, fields and woods.
