Werk

Volunteers are going to work in various activities such organizing ceremonies and events with local people, teaching English, music, arts, and sports to children, create vegetable farms, and working with local people in income generation program.

Accommodatie en maaltijden

The volunteer accommodation is located right at the Center facility. There are two toilets and bathrooms next to the house where the volunteers are staying. The room is shared by four people. Everybody has their own bed, blanket and pillow and a mosquito net. The dorm is aligned to our kitchen, where all volunteers cook together. Accommodation outside the project during the free day is excluded so volunteers are asked to cover your own expenses.

Locatie en vrije tijd

There are plenty of tourist attraction sites such as Teuk Chhou, Bokor national park, Rabit island, and more.. that you can explore during your free day. CSD is on open space in there mote area so beside your free day touring you can also have fun by interacting with local people, teenagers and children during your free time by organizing different activities so bring your flexibility and creativity.

Organisatie

After 4 years of progress, we are now transforming CYA - Learning Center (CLC) into the Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) where we will expand our work from education into community development. The center will include activities such as vegetable farm, solar Installation, and improve the quality and expand the market for soap products. Of course, we are continuing to improve our education program for local children and teenagers. We will include computers, arts, and music into its existing English classes. CSD is located in a remote area of Kampot province. It takes about 2 hours 30 minutes from Phnom Penh. We are looking forward to working with you and your volunteers!

Vereisten

What do we expect from you? - Volunteers read and understood this information. Stay the entire length of project. - Volunteers are aware about the concept of international voluntary service which is not a cheap way of spending your holiday but a voluntary activity that need your high motivation and willing to achieve a certain goal together with team. - Realize that living condition in Cambodia is much difference from your home country (no warm water, no air-conditioning, not easy to access to international phone and internet, no soft beds, and the food is also differences etc). Volunteers should understand about the aims of project and realize that learning about Cambodian way and social contact is more important than manual work. - Volunteers are open minded, leave prejudice behind and show initiative. - Volunteers should understand the situation of spending time with local people who do not speak English very well. - Volunteers should try the effort in trying to communicate in basic Khmer language or other way of communicating (work, pictures, gestures, etc). If you will try, you will be amazed how quick you will learn basic Khmer language. - Do not complain if any activities do not happen as planned. It is depending on condition and situation. So, bring some flexibilities and you will stay relax and avoid a lot of stress and frustration for yourself.

Opmerkingen

What to bring? - Positive energy to work and live the local lifestyle - Idea for energizing games and activities during you free time - Knowledge, education, and information about your country so that you can share with other participants - Sunscreen: It would be helpful for outside activities and traveling since the Cambodia sun is brutal. - Hand sanitizer: always useful just in case you can’t wash your hands at a particular moment - Clothes: Cambodia is hot all year round, even in rainy season – the heat and the humidity combine to make most people sweat a lot. - Comfortable clothes and shoes for daily and activities, and a set smart clothes. Covering up in a hot climate might sound mad, but it’s great protection against the sun. - Some personal medicine such as allergy, mosquito repellent, and other emergencies medicine though we will provide first aids for basic condition. - Traditional cloth that you might want to wear in the international night - Food and ingredients for international dinner and snack so that you can share with local people.
