Het project duurt van 8 t/m 29 september.
Working alongside a technical instructor, your goal will be to rebuild a 20 meters long retaining low-wall made of dry-stone, located in the castle’s park. You will learn about the traditional masonry technique of dry-stone.
You will be accommodated in a municipal guest-house, in the village, which will be reserved especially for you. There will be rooms of 4 places and an area for community life, including kitchen and lounge corner. A yard will be at your disposal, so you may have meals outdoors. The group will be sharing the cleaning chores and preparing meals together. The budget will be allocated to the group leader and you will participate in the preparation of dishes using good products from the market and local producers.
Chavaniac-Lafayette is a charming typical village of Auvergne, located in the Regional Natural Park of Livradois-Forez, in a mountain region with an altitude of 700 meters above sea level. The department of Haute-Loire offers a lot of activities: hiking in the highlands or in the Gorges of Allier, visits of the city Puy-en-Velay, canoeing in the Allier River, swimming in natural lakes, and discovery of listed villages. You will have a lot of different possibilities for your free time! Nature and heritage lovers will enjoy this is workcamp.
You will participate in a park layout of a castle listed Historical Monument, on a very beautiful and touristic site! The castle of Chavaniac-Lafayette is located in Auvergne, in the small village of Chavaniac, in Haute-Loire. It was built in the XIVth century, and has been restored several times during its history. It was the birthplace and home of the General Marquis de Lafayette, a historical figure internationally known. The castle is now own by the Department of Haute-Loire, who wants to rehabilitate it and have it recognized as a remarkable site. It is open to the public, and offers a museographical visit as well as the discovery of the park and its exceptional botanical diversity. In 2017, international volunteers have been working there for the first time. Now it is your turn to get involved in this emblematic site!
Bring work clothes, walking boots and a backpack. Nights can be chilly, so bring warm clothes and a good sleeping bag. You can also bring recipes from your home country, musical instruments and games. You will get around the village on foot and minibus. Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and then be reimbursed once back in their home country.
