Sete is an important port city of the South-East of France located in the Herault department. The city is stuck right between Thau’s pond and the Mediterranean sea, and is only 40km away from Montpellier. You will be able to enjoy the richness of this geographical area between the historical heritage (ports, maritime infrastructures, quays with colored facades …) and the natural heritage (Mediterranean Sea, Thau’s pond…). You can choose between many activities during your free time such as hiking, swimming, and water activities (diving, sailing, kayaking …) More information: and
In Sete, around the Bassin de Thau, city rich in history, legends and maritime culture, you will participate in the restoration of various traditional boats called 'Voile latine', typical boats of the Mediterranean shores. This city has a living maritime heritage, a fishing port in the heart of the city, a fish auction and an important Mediterranean culture. This project is vital to the safeguard of the gestures and know-how of our elders and to insure the transmission of knowledge to future generations. This useful project for the daily life of the residents proposes you to meet the local people and discover a rich territory.
For the work, please bring gardening gloves, working clothes and closed shoes. As the night can be quite cold, remember also to bring warm clothes and a sleeping bag.Don’t forget your protections against the sun (hat, glasses, sunscreen) and your swim suit! Some shared times could be organized if you want, so please feel free to bring some cultural stuff in your bag (food, recipes, stories or dances)! Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and then be reimbursed once back in their home country.
Meeting point : Sete train station. Closest airport: Montpellier, Marseille or Paris
