Trythall School are continuing to develop their outdoor space for the children and in the last few years the group of international volunteers have helped to create an outside maze, growing areas and theatre area. The volunteers will work on gardening, horticulture, hard landscaping, and creative tasks. The work may change depending on the weather and the children who are assisting each day; we ask that volunteers are ready to work hard, be flexible and willing to help with any of the tasks which are practical in nature. In week 1 the children will spend some time working with the volunteers and then in the second week the school will be closed and only accessible to the volunteers who will continue work in the garden areas.
The accommodation is basic but adequate; volunteers will sleep on the floor in the community room at the school. There are toilets and cooking facilities at the school. There is no shower at the school so volunteers will be using showers with host families and will be able to access them every 2 – 3 days. Please bring a sleeping bag and roll mat. The community room is used at 9am for the school so volunteers must be prepared to tidy their things away in the morning. However in the second week the volunteers will be able to access the appropriate rooms they need due to the school being closed.
Trythall School, Newmill lies in the centre of Penwith where a land of rocks and moorland stretches itself out into a blue-green sea. Near Land’s End, the Western tip of England, this is the most remote and beautiful part of an area of outstanding natural beauty. Penwith contains a great concentration of Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age and Romano-British archaeological remains. This is a remote rural location, with no-wifi signal. Activities: Previous groups have enjoyed trips to: sandy beaches, deserted coves, quiet farms stunning moorland walks, historical sites, surfing sessions, St Michael’s Mount, beach barbecues, and visits to nearby towns (Penzance and St Ives).
