The volunteers will unearth the inside of the tower to make it accessible for the public. Work will be supervised by an archaeologist. The work will also include the examination of the ground conditions with the help of special instruments like sieves,…Please be aware that you have to work a lot in the dirt and that you will get dirty and dusty!
You will be accommodated in the historic „Oberer Torturm“ (upper gate tower) that was built in the 14th century as the Northern entrance in the city’s fortification. The tower is renovated, so there are a kitchen, three separate dormitories, and sanitary facilities you can use; however, you can still feel the medieval spirit of the place. There is one shower and bathroom in the accommodation that you can use, and some additional showers and sanitary facilities in the school building next door.
Wolframs-Eschenbach is a small medieval town with an historic centre that is still completely is surrounded by a well-preserved fortification. It is located only 50 kilometres from Nuremberg and close to the Franconian Lake District. This area with several great lakes was created as a result of one of Germany's largest water-management projects and is a very popular touristic area.
Wolframs-Eschenbach is a small medieval town in Franconia. It´s the second time the community is going to invite a Workcamp in order to help them with archaeological excavations at their city wall. They are very happy and excited to have international help around again. Under the supervision of a local expert the group will help digging out the inside of a medieval tower (that has been filled up in the past) down to its original level.
