Samen met 4 andere vrijwilligers ga je voor 11 dagen naar een natuur en constructieproject.
Het project duurt van 1 t/m 12 augustus.
Let op: naast het inschrijfgeld betaal je ter plekke nog een lokale bijdrage van € 250.
Volunteers will have environmental tasks in the area near to the waterfall, for example fixing hiking paths and cleaning the area. Our work will also depend on weather conditions, which is why we must be flexible. You should be prepared for unfriendly weather, but hopefully, the weather will be nice most of the time. This is a perfect camp for people who like outdoor work and physical challenges. Working hours are about 6 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Worldwide Friends volunteers will be staying in a nice community building. We offer basic facilities. mattresses are provided; however, volunteers should bring their own warm sleeping bags. Wireless internet access is provided free of charge.Food is included for the duration of the workcamp, however, everyone is expected to do their fair share of the cooking and cleaning. Since it is always nice to try new and different dishes, volunteers are encouraged to bring along their favourite recipes from home
Worldwide Friends volunteers have free access to the local geothermally-heated swimming pool in the community, Traditionally, natural pools have played an important social role in Icelandic culture. Most Icelandic pools offer indoor and outdoor swimming, as well as hot tubs and saunas or steam rooms. The area in the east is also good for hiking, so please bring your hiking shoes. They will also have free entrance to local museumsWF Iceland will organise reasonably-priced weekend excursions to some of the most popular, beautiful areas and natural wonders that Iceland has to offer. Excursions include unique Icelandic sights, such as waterfalls, volcanic and geothermal areas, glaciers, lava forests, hot-springs, rhyolite mountain ranges, steam-vents or even icebergs.We will also focus on intercultural learning and exchange. Every evening, volunteers from different countries will be in charge of presenting their country of origin and culture in an informal way. It can be a presentation, a game, theatre i the form of introduction is up to you Therefore, we encourage you to bring along some food, photos or anything interesting related to your country for a fun and informative evening amongst other volunteers. Hvalfjaroarsveit is a small community between Reykjavik and Akranes. The population is around 600 inhabitants and most of the people are doing agricultural work or tourism. This area is known by the beautiful areas and among the most amazing natural places are Botnsdalur, Syrilsklif and of course Glymur the highest waterfall in Iceland. The waterfall drops into a mossy green extremely majestic canyon, the hike is worth every minute, and is not that difficult even though you need to face some challenges on your way up. Hiking up to Glymur waterfall is one of the most enjoyable and exciting hikes that you can find because the whole area and vista is truly majestic and exceptionally beautiful. Each step you take you get more and more eager to view the big beauty and once at the top, and on your way up, you get to see some epic sceneries and views.
