Dry grasslands form a rare and endangered habitat both Thayatal National Park and the Biosphere Reserve Wienerwald. We will cut grass, bushes and trees, and remove the biomass from the areas to suppress the beginning of forest growth. In the wetlands and on other spots we will selectively eliminate invasive alien plant species to support the native flora. We will also remove sediment from the river bottom to support fish breeding. Our goal is to conserve and enhance biodiversity in unique and rare habitats. This camp contributes to the Natura2000-region objectives.
We will work four days a week from about 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. with breaks in between.

During our time in Thayatal National Park we will stay in the Wild Cat Camp next to the visitor’s center near Hardegg. During your week in the Biosphere Reserve Wienerwald you will be accommodated in a hostel in Hütteldorf (Vienna). Breakfast will be served at your accommodation. Packed lunch is provided as well. We will have dinner either at your accommodations or at local restaurants. We will stay in bedrooms for either two, four or six persons with either private or shared bathrooms. There is also free WIFI, washing machine and a dryer available. If you suffer from allergies please specify

The Thayatal National Park is, together with Národní Park Podyjí in Czech Republic, a cross-border nature protection area. It is situated in northern Lower Austria in a unique lowland river valley. In the Biosphere Reserve Wienerwald a wide range of wooded hills alternates with vast meadows, pastures and orchards as well as vineyards and dry grasslands – the result of centuries of human cultivation.

The camp is held at two different locations (at Thayatal National Park and the
Biosphere Reserve Wienerwald) and is hosted by the SCI Austria, the national branch of a network of international volunteer exchange associations.

Small letter of motivation is required. You should be at least 18 years old and in good physical shape
