The activities of the project mainly
 Gardening in the Historical Gardens of Palazzolo. The volunteers will clean the
paths from foliage, mow the grass, trim the plants and trees to restore the gardens
to their former beauty;
 Restoring the dungeons of the medieval castle, clearing them from rubble and
rocks, spreading gravel on the floor to make them accessible from the public;
 Installing and painting new fences around the castle’s moat and along the river
All the work will be done in cooperation with young people of the town, in order to
develop a nice environment and close relations between volunteers and locals.

The volunteers will be hosted in a structure in the centre of the town which will be used as
dormitory. Shared rooms, warm showers and toilets are provided. The accommodation
has also a big and cozy garden with a nice view of the town. The meals will be prepared
together as they are part of the community life. It would be nice if you could bring typical
recipes from home in order to share the preparation of food from all over the world. For
this purpose one night will be organized an intercultural dinner in which you can share with
others a piece of your home.

Palazzolo sull’Oglio is a town of about 20.000 inhabitants on the banks of the river
Oglio, in the province of Brescia, Lombardy. It takes an hour to Milan, two hours to
Venice, 40 minutes to Lake Garda and 20 minutes to Lake Iseo and it is really close to
“Franciacorta”, an area well-known for its high quality wines. The territory of the city is full
of history: in the town you can find ancient churches, frescoes, palaces, nineteenth-century
villas and a medieval castle with the “Torre del Popolo”, the highest round-based tower in
Italy, standing at 97 meters high. Palazzolo sull’Oglio also offers large green areas: a big
park along the river and the villas’ gardens, where the project is located. The town is close
to the hills at the base of the Alps and near the big lakes of Northern Italy. Trains and
buses are an easy way to discover the territory. All the facilities you need are available in
the town: stores, banks, the municipal swimming pool and a great choice of pubs,
restaurants and cafes.

During the Workcamp there will be a couple of days of free time, when the
volunteers will have the chance to visit some famous cities and places such as: Milan,
Bergamo, Brescia, Verona, Venice, Lake Iseo and Monte Isola, Lake Garda and other
beautiful locations.

Furthermore, there will be the possibility to take part in some organized activities, both
in Palazzolo and in neighbouring cities:

Canoeing on the river Oglio with instructors of the local Kayak Canoa Club;

A visit to some local wine cellars, to see firsthand the production of the renowned
Franciacorta wine and taste it directly from the winemaker;

A tour of the city of Palazzolo sull’Oglio and its less known marvels;

Ekoclub is an association founded in 1970 to revitalise a correct way of thinking and
living nature. It is founded on a deep knowledge of the environment and its healthier
traditions. Exclusively non-profit and confirmed between the NGO, includes among its
members several tens of thousands of people, with a growing tendency. Ekoclub differs
from other environmental groups in the centrality of the human relation to the environment
and therefore its ability to reap the benefits of plants and animals of the earth with respect
to the actual necessity. This capability enables a man to keep his ancestral customs and to
have a key effect in maintaining the environmental balance.
The Ekoclub Association has many provincial branches distributed in different
Italian regions. The section of Palazzolo, near Brescia, is very active and has worked to
the creation of international workcamps for five years with the help of young people
motivated by a strong sense of civic duty.

The project is the result of an important partnership between the town Council and
the Ekoclub Association. The Council believes in the promotion of youth empowerment
projects and in the development of active citizenship.The municipality of Palazzolo sull’Oglio is undertaking a project of enhancement of the naturalistic and historical heritage of the town in which young people are actively involved. The aim of this work is to show to the international participants the ancient historical and naturalistic background of the town and to help its beauties to revive, in a green context. Thanks to the close contact with the Italian environment and culture, the
participants will feel an unforgettable educational and enjoyable experience.
