You will renovate the facade of one of the buildings constituting the reception center of the PEP. The volunteers will help to clean the facade (remove the ivy), repaint the whole building and redo the window frames. This work may sometimes involve working on small scaffolding.
You will be staying in tents in the heart of the city with all the necessary amenities. A collective place for cooking, meals and activities will be provided for you among other things. You will share the different collective tasks and prepare meals together.
Adernos is a major tourist destination because of its geographical position on the banks of the basin of Arcachon in Gironde. Andernos is a municipality in the South-West of France, rich in oyster farming, beaches and entertaining activities. 40 minutes from Bordeaux and 15 minutes from the Dune du Pila, this place will allow you to discover the different landscapes and emblematic heritage of the Landes coast while enjoying the Atlantic Ocean nearby.
The departmental Association of the ‘Pupils of Public Education’ (PEP) is defined around three main pillars, solidarity, education and health. In Andernos, the association has a vast area hosting different structures, for the association itself or for others like an educational and pedagogical therapeutic institute or the reception of unaccompanied migrant minors. It is an ideal place to promote social, cultural and generational diversity.
The PEP 33 and Concordia offer a project related to the renovation of the “neo-basque” house which aims to accommodate classrooms and support young unaccompanied minors. You will help in the rehabilitation of this house, by enhancing and embellishing the exterior facade.
Bring a sleeping bag, working clothes, walking shoes, rain gear, a flashlight … but do not forget your swimsuit, sunscreen, a hat or a cap.
Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them their personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.
