Come to learn more about archaeology and to discover dry stone construction techniques! As part of our partnership with the city of Clermont L’Herault and together with the local organisation GREC (Clermontais Research and Studies Group) specialised in archaeology, we intend to carry out a workcamp in the Clermont l’Herault hills. This natural site has an oppidum, a large fortified Iron Age settlement dating back to the period between the 6th and the 3rd century BC. Several archaeological excavations took place here between 1983 and 1990. This project proposes to safeguard and enhance the natural, cultural and archaeological heritage of this place and highlight the hiking trails around the site.

Open to IBG and YAP volunteers only. This project is supported by the OFAJ, the French-German Youth Office. Some volunteers from France, Germany and Italy may be eligible for reimbursement of their travel costs upon the presentation of original tickets.

For the work, please bring gardening gloves, working clothes and closed shoes. As nights can be quite cold, remember also to bring warm clothes and a sleeping bag. Don’t forget sun protection (hat, glasses and sunscreen) and your swim suit!
Some common activities can be organized if you want to, so please feel free to take something special from your home country with you (food, recipes, stories or dances)! European Union citizens must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.
