This project offers two type of works to the volunteers that are independent from each other but somehow connected in an ideological way.

The first task: El Cerro is a local project of creating new natural and agricultural reserve. The project is unique in whole province of Madrid because combines a private company initiative with environmental protection and international volunteering. Camping Monte Holiday, is trying to create a complex of agronomy, pasturage and farming, protection of local fauna, tourism and education. This project leads to sustainability and protection of natural and cultural heritage. The work of volunteers will be manual and diverse, from Monday – Friday, approximately 4-6 hours per day. The type of tasks: to clean and maintain ecologic garden, cleaning hives, discovery of natural springs, troughs for feeding animals, walls, improving the camp site for volunteers, maintaining touristic paths as well as the preparation of some materials such as soap and honey for fund raising of environmental workcamps such as Donkey Caravan.

The second task: The task will be preparing activities for the local kids of the camping. In order to spreading the environmental and cultural awareness we would like to connect this project with the kids. The volunteers will prepare some environmental workshops and games in English and spend some time with the local kids in the afternoons during 1-2 hour.

Accommodation is provided in 1 or 2 person tents in the Camping Monte Holiday (http://www.monteholiday.com/en/home) that offers hot showers, toilet areas, washing machines and recreation areas, swimming pool and free Wi-Fi (not available all the time and not in the sleeping area). Boys and girls will sleep separately.

You need to bring a sleeping bag and a sheet.
Food will be prepared by volunteers. Volunteers are asked to help with preparation of their own breakfasts and they will be provided with fresh drinks. Lunch and dinner will be prepared by the volunteers. Campsite accommodation itself provides basic conditions and the quality of those depend also on cleanliness and contribution of all participants.

The workcamp takes place in Gargantilla del Lozoya, a small village in the “Sierra Norte”, a mountain range in the autonomous region of Madrid (Comunidad de Madrid). Gargantilla is a part of several municipalities in the Valley of Lozoya, most of these are little villages but you can find all you need to live. It’s near Buitrago del Lozoya and Rascafría, these are larger villages, where you can find banks and bigger shops. Gargantilla is approximately 80 km north of Madrid, and you can reach the capital in an hour more or less by car, and two hours by public transportation.
The project includes TWO NIGHTS in Madrid at a youth hostel where participants will be able to explore the city, including some cultural activities such as visit of the Prado Museum, under the supervision of an adult volunteer. De Amicitia will cover the youth hostel expenses, sandwiches, dinner at pizza restaurant, and entrance to Prado museum. We will not support public transport or any other extra expenses.

De Amicitia is an Environmental non-profit, non-governmental organization that is located in a rural mountainous area, Sierra Norte, 80 km away from Madrid.
De Amicitia is a member of The Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organisations is an International Non-Governmental Youth Organisation that represents national organisations which promote intercultural education, understanding and peace through voluntary service. The Alliance,
founded in 1982, is presently made up of full, associate and candidate members in 29 countries worldwide.

De Amicitia provides an opportunity for volunteers, both youngsters and adults, to take part in local and international volunteering activities, especially towards environmental protection and sustainable development. These mainly include international workcamps, but also activities in the local areas such as reforestations.
In addition, De Amicitia takes part in International youth exchanges and seminars, both as a host and sending organizations. These are focused primarily on social activities and promoting development, peace and human rights.
Due to our location in a rural area, one of De Amicitia priorities is to help improve local development.
