The two cottages confiscated 7 years ago, are in good shape but need some maintenance work:- cleaning of indoor and outdoor spaces- wall painting – setting up flower beds and fences- planting of treesThe volunteers will help the local WWF implement some important activities:- At CRTM (sea turtle rescue centre) they will help clean the pools, feed the animals, rescue the turtles and set them free.- Clean the beaches from plastic, inside the Protected marine area, as Crotone WWF is a member of the WWF ITALIA PLASTIC FREE Campaign.- Clean the land confiscated to mafia and harvest.The volunteers will be supervised by WWF operators; they will also take part to educational activities dealing with themes like crime fight and environmental and historical heritage in our territory.
The volunteers will be accommodated in one of the two cottages at Le Castella, and need to bring their own towels, bedsheets, pillow case, or a sleeping bag.They will prepare the meals themselves, in shifts, and have to keep the place clean.They might also be accommodated at CELA in Porto Kaleo (San Leonardo di Cutro) where they will share the room with up to 8 people.
Sight-seeing tours will be organized in the free time, and days at the seaside.
The workcamp is organized in cooperation with Crotone WWF, that has been running:a legal and environmental education centre (C.E.L.A.) confiscated to the local mafia (n drangheta), which has become the symbol of the fight against the organized crime in Crotone province;a centre for sea turtle rescue in the Marina di Caporizzuto reserve, with aquarium: C.E.A.M. (Centro Educazione Marina);a centre for Environmental Education: Centro Educativo Ambientale (CEA) in Santa Severina; since 2019 two properties confiscated to Scervo family, member of Arena s cosca. The two cottages given to foster care to Crotone WWF by the municipality are located in Santa Domenica, Le Castella, in the protected sea area of Isola Di Caporizzuto.
