The Dithmarschen Stone Age Park is working on developing the grounds of an archaeological open-air museum and is looking forward to your support with this project. Over the last few years, a “Stone Age settlement” has been recreated on a 40-hectare site. This year, with your help, a “Stone Age house” will be renewed and restored (e.g. with wicker and mud walls, grass roofing etc.). Besides this, you will be working on a “gaming” social media project with a “stone age” theme, as well as creating texts in English for exhibition posters if necessary. You will also have the opportunity to create and star in a cinematic documentary, if you like. You will be guided by experienced museum staff, who will give you crafting tips and tutorials on social media, as well as sharing their knowledge with you about archaeology and the history of the Stone Age. You can try out different tasks working with various tools, materials and techniques. If you are interested in archaeology and history and want to know more about open-air museums, then you will love this camp.
More info (in German) at:
You will be staying at the Albersdorf Youth Hostel.
Meals will be provided during the camp.
The Albersdorf Youth Hostel, where you will be staying, is located in the centre of town. There are places to go shopping and to go out nearby as well as the Dithmarschen Museum for Archaeology and Ecology. At the weekend you can go on an excursion to Hamburg or to the North Sea or Baltic Sea coastlines.
The work will be physically demanding. You should bring appropriate clothing for working on-site outdoors. You should be interested in having discussions with visitors.
If you are interested in archaeology and enjoying working outside, then this is the camp for you.
