PROJECT: The project will take place in Albano Laziale, a municipality included in the Castelli Romani Regional Park, this area includes also two volcanic lakes. The aims of workcamp are repairing the area from damages and those caused by people and animals like wild boars and helping the Park Guards to track and monitor endemic animal species. LEGAMBIENTE LOCAL GROUP: Legambiente local group Appia Sud Il Riccio  was born in 1998 and represents Castelli Romani’s local section of Lazio Legambiente. The tasks are different: to denounce illegal and illicit activities, to promote and sensitize citizens even with scholastic projects such as promoting visits among archeological and botanic routes/tracks. The association also preserves the ancient route called Appia that connect Rome to Brindisi in the south of Italy. The project is in collaboration with Albano municipality and Castelle Romani regional Park. LOCATION AND LEISURE: Albano Laziale is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Rome on the Alban Hills, far 25 kilometers from Rome. Albano is one of the most important municipalities of the Castelli Romani and a busy commercial centre. It was also a suburbicarian bishopric since the 5th century, a historic principality of the Savelli family, and from 1699 to 1798 the inalienable possession of the Holy See. The territory of Albano is included in the Regional Park of Castelli Romani. The main hydrographic feature is Lake Albano. The activities will be carried out in a wood area, belonging to the jurisdiction of Albano called “Bosco dei Cappuccini”, next to a Monastery of the 17th century and a Roman Amphitheatre, along two paths adjacent to the two Volcanic lakes belonging to the Park. (Lake Albano, Lake of Nemi), and other woods comprised in the Park’s territory. WORK: volunteers will be involved in several kinds of manual works as: mountains path’s maintenance, monitoring of local fauna, protected area’s maintenance in the woods and around lakes. The work will include removing non-native plants and tracking the endemic ones, repairing the damaged parts of an enclosure, tracking the signals of presence of important animal species like bats (21 species in the Park) and birds of prey and monitoring them. Volunteers will monitor endemic animal species together with the park guards in order to inform the local polpulation. STUDY PART: volunteers will have focus on biodiversity and wildlife conservation thanks to presence of Regional Park’s guards. ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD: volunteers will be hosted in a public school in Albano with a common space. The meals will be provided by a catering service. TERMINAL: Roma-Ciampino Airport (Ciampino) or Leonardo da Vinci Airport (Fiumicino – FCO). Rome Train Station (Termini or Roma Tiburtina); Local train station: Albano Laziale last train from Rome to Albano at 21:21; Romebus station in Roma Anagnina (Metro A station) , last bus from Rome to Albano at 23:25. SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: It is recommended a medium ability or willingness to work in synergy with nature and a general knowledge of plants and animals. LANGUAGE: English
