During the workcamp, international, French, and local volunteers will take part in different works to improve the place and to build eco-friendly installations: storage for recycled materials, furniture out of recycled materials like wood palettes, systems to collect rainwater, and dry toilets. For this work, you will be trained in woodworking and construction. You will also help tend to the garden.
You will sleep in collective tents on the campsite of the association. Please bring along a sleeping bag with you. The campsite has bathrooms and showers, as well as a kitchen place. Food will be provided and cooked by the volunteers in turns.
Location: La Ferté Alais is approximately 50 km south of Paris, in the region of Essonne.
Leisure activities: You will have the chance to enjoy the association’s campsite and discover the cultural and natural heritage of the region, alongside its natural park. You will also be given the opportunity to mingle with local young people. Other leisure activities will be organised collectively depending on the wishes of the group and the available budget.
The town of La Ferté-Alais is located in a regional natural park called Gâtinais, in the valley of the Essonne river. The town has had many experiences in the past of hosting some international workcamps. La Ferté-Alais is very attached to these projects as it celebrates the local heritage and adds some extra spice to life, especially for local youths. Since 2018 in partnership with the town, the association Vir’Volt runs an international hosting site where young people from different countries come to work and live together. The association wishes to use the place to bring awareness about environment protection by using eco-friendly practices.
This project should not be seen as a sightseeing trip to Paris. If you wish to visit Paris, you should arrive some days before or leave some days after the dates of the summer camp.
