The participants will continue the work made by previous workcamp, which is a fight against an invasive plant called “Witch Claws”. This plant grows on sandy soil, and is covering the space needed for migrating birds to nest. In order to have protected species of birds able to nest in their traditional environment, our partner “Rivage” Syndicate is fighting against the invasion of this specific plant. Participants will support this struggle for a more sustainable environment.
Our partner will provide housing in a guesthouse. Transportation (provided by the organization) will be needed every day to reach the work area.
Location: The volunteers will be hosted in Saint Laurent de Salanque, and the work will take place around Leucate’s pond.
Leisure activities: This project takes place seaside, which is visited by many tourists during the summer holidays. However during the workcamp, most of the tourists have already gone, and volunteers will have the opportunity to enjoy the numerous leisure activities of the area without being overcrowded by tourists. Moreover, the local partner takes pride in proposing several activities of discovering the local culture. Finally, the participants will also be engaged in the organization and the celebrations of a local cultural and ecological festival.
The workcamp will take place in a “Natura 2000” area, an area recognized and protected by the European Union for the quality and uniqueness of its environment. It has been several years now that, at the end of the summer, the city and the syndicate in charge of the preservation of this environment have been organizing an international workcamp to participate in the protection of the area.
