Supervised by a technical leader specialized in traditional masonry and stone cutting, you will have to remove vegetation from part of the wall in order to begin the masonry work. You will then have to deconstruct the low walls, reconstruct the deteriorating foundation, put up new walls by disjoining and rejoining with lime mortar, and replace the stones in poor condition. You will also have the mission of consolidating and highlighting the two stone towers surrounded by an iron gate, which allow the school children to pass through. The technical supervisor will teach you traditional masonry and stone cutting.
Collective mixed dormitories with all amenities (bathroom, kitchen, etc.) Food will be provided for you to prepare your meals.
Location : Rouffignac, 80 km from Bordeaux, Charente-Maritime.
Leisure activities : The aim is to exchange your rich culture with the residents and organizations of the territory. Visits throughout the region will be collectively organized according to your desires (visits, ocean, museums, etc.) You can discover cities like St Emilion, Bordeaux, La Rochelle, etc. Free time and and local organizations will encourage mingling with the residents who cannot wait to meet you!
Rouffignac is a small and charming village in the southwest of France, located in the Charente-Maritime department. A very rural village, yet it offers a magnificent cultural heritage and history in regards to the parish church of Saint-Christophe. It is one of the municipalities receiving a Esperantist Green Star, an award of distinction awarded to the mayors of Esperanto speaking villages, and is marked by a great hiking trail, the GR 360. The first international workcamp of Rouffignac will carry on with restoration of the stone walls that surrounds the school.
