The town of Estella-Lizarra possessed one of the most powerful defensive systems of the kingdom of Navarre from the 13th to the 16th century. His castle was in fact an ensemble of great complexity completed with the smaller castles of Belmerchet and Zalatambor. This fortress was a nearly impregnable redoubt during the Middle Ages and, until the 16th century, it was one of the most prominent elements of the civil architecture of the town. Today, the rocky eminence occupied by the castle is coro- nated by a cross, the Castles Cross, dominating a town that preserves today the memory of its strength.
The young volunteers will work on three different fronts:
The Scientific, participating in the cleaning of the castle structures, the Archaeological Work in the possible chapel of the castle, with its apse, the cistern and a room between them.
Recovering the area (paths of access to the ruins of the fortress)
Promotion of the historical heritage of the Castle(guided visits of their own work place for the local community).
