This camp is timed to help prepare for a meeting of the UK ECO VILLAGES NETWORK (part of the Global EcoVillages Network) which will take place the weekend of 14-15 September. Members of the communities from across the UK will come together for the first time as the GEN WISE network to share their stories, inspiration and solutions to sustainability. Volunteers will do useful jobs for the community such as painting and gardening as part of our ambition to expand our production of community-grown food. It will also assist in the preparation for the network meeting and clearing up after the meeting.

Volunteers can sleep in guest rooms indoors or can bring their own tents. The group will cook for themselves in the communal kitchen but will join the community on Friday evenings for their ‘pot-luck’ dinner. Individual members of the community may invite volunteers to their homes.

LOCATION:
Laughton Lodge is outside the village of Laughton about 8 kms east of Lewes.

LEISURE:
Arriving on the Friday volunteers will work over the weekend and have one day off early in the week. For the weekend of 14th-15th they will have the option of attending the Eco Village meeting or having the time free. Visits can be to the nearby town of Lewes (the castle and Bull House, residence of the revolutionary Tom Paine) and Brighton is not far away. The South Downs are wonderful for those that enjoy walking and the famous seaside cliffs known as the Seven Sisters are worth a visit. Community members at Laughton Lodge will arrange opportunities for yoga and meditation and horse riding or country walks during the course of the camp.

Laughton Lodge (www.laughtonlodge.org) is a co-housing community of mostly professional people living in the buildings and grounds of a former hospital in a beautiful part of East Sussex. Families live in individual houses and share a main common building, which is used for different community related activities, and for use by external groups. The building are set in 23 acres of land.

VAP HOSTING FEE: Volunteers will be asked to pay a fee of £80 GBP upon arrival. VAP charges this fee as without it we would be virtually unable to organise any projects in the UK.
