Since 2008 Perspective Camps (Перспектива) have been uniting volunteers from Russia and abroad in their sincere desire to help local communities of Yaroslavl Region in renovating social infrastructure. Over the last years the volunteers have renovated schools, kindergartens, orphanages, elderly people’s apartments, parks (for the 1000 anniversary of Yaroslavl), monuments, churches and social rehabilitation centers. This year you will continue this work in Myshkin, together with a group of young Russian volunteers. You will participate in such activities as removing vegetation, cleaning off old paint, painting, wall-papering and other minor repairs. You will work 6 hours a day (with a lunch-break), 5 days a week.
Lodging, food and excursions are provided by the local host. Volunteers will live in a dormitory, located not far from the work place, toilet and bathroom on the floor. We will have a bus to reach the working place if necessary. Meals 3 times a day will be provided in the canteen. Alcohol is prohibited in our camp.
This year the camp will be held in Myshkin (Мышкин), the smallest town of Yaroslavl Region, located on the Volga River. Tourists love it, despite of its size, and come weekly by cruise ships and cars to see its 19th century architecture, admire Volga views and, most of all, to visit its lovely museums devoted to mice (“мышь” means a mouse in Russian), valenki (traditional felt boots), linen, dolls, retro vehicles and vodka.
This camp is perfect for those who want to find a lot of friends in Russia and make a huge difference for the local community! You’ll live and work with volunteers from Yaroslavl Region, so whatever your goals are – to practice or learn Russian, to understand mysterious Russian soul, to learn how Russians live outside of Moscow – this camp is the right choice! Besides, Perspective Camps are specialized in renovating public facilities in small towns and their work is always meaningful and much appreciated by the locals.
Russian and international volunteers will have a common area to spend time together in the evenings. All the Russian volunteers speak English at least a bit, but there will always be a camp-leader to facilitate communication and suggest some activities. The trip to Yaroslavl with a guided tour in English will be organized. Yaroslavl is the centre of the region and one of the oldest and most beautiful cities of the Golden Ring of Russia.
The workcamp is run in the cooperation with Department of youth, culture and sport of Yaroslavl Region.
