The reconstruction of Khmelita Estate and creation of the museum took a lot of love, energy and care of the people who passionately wanted to preserve architectural, natural and literary heritage of the country. There is still a lot to do, and a young and enthusiastic museum team gladly welcomes any help! This year the volunteers will work in the park – minor repairs, painting and cleaning.
Participants will live in the hotel on the territory of Khmelita. Ingredients for food will be provided. Volunteers will cook for themselves in groups of 2.
The volunteers will have a common room and the whole estate park for free time activities. In the park there is a pond to bathe in, hiking routes, tents for outdoor parties and a small bbq kit. Spacious rooms in the estate house and a projector make it possible to organize cinema nights and other indoor events. The volunteers will have an opportunity to meet local people and have international parties, sharing traditional recipes and making friends. The museum team will be happy to visit all the museum objects and branches with the volunteers and give guided tours especially for them.
The workcamp is run in cooperation with Griboedov State Historical, Cultural and Natural Museum-Reserve Khmelita. It is located 260 km from Moscow and the nearest town is Vyazma. The heart of Khmelita is the museum of Aleksandr Griboedov, Russian writer, diplomat and composer. The reserve also includes the museum of Pavel Nakhimov, famous Russian admiral, and the memorial of WW2. The museum gives guided tours not only on its own territory but in the neighbouring estates, villages and towns, thus coming to Khmelita one will have a chance to time travel a bit, get to know different aspects of Russian culture and enjoy beautiful countryside.
