Work camp participants tasks consist of the excavation of the chosen area, using the extension excavation system and registration for stratigraphic units (EU), following an adaptation of the Harris method. Participants will be able to collaborate on the photographic and planimetry records of the layers and structures revealed (archaeological plans and sections E 1:20). These tasks will be carried out by the participants always under the supervision of two archeologists from the Museu Etnològic del Montseny, in charge of the technical work. As the excavation work proceeds, we expect to collect numerous archaeological artifacts (ceramic and non-ceramic, especially wildlife bones and ceramics) from medieval and modern times (14th-16th centuries) which will be cleaned and marked. This task is performed after the didactic explanation (workshop of treatment of archeological material) on the typology and chronology of the found artifacts, by the technicians of the MEMGA. Technical work is performed from Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 2 pm, with a half an hour break at 11 to rest and eat.
Accommodatie en maaltijden
There is a menu prepared for the whole workcamp. It is a varied Mediterranean diet very well valued in the previous editions of the camps for the participants. If there is a vegetarian, we can prepared a vegetarian menu expressly without any problem.
Locatie en vrije tijd
Our staff team proposes an activity program for leisure time when no technical work is performed. There are activities in the afternoons and at night, whether in the form of workshops, games, talks ... All activities have the intention of creating a certain group dynamic , that of integrating everyone in the circle and that of reaching a considerable level of friendship and fellowship between the camp participants and the staff and collaborators themselves. At the same time, it is intended that the participants discover the natural and ethnological environment in which the Castle of Montsoriu is framed. Some of the activities are:
- Tasks of maintenance of the environment in a playful way
- Night activities performed by collaborators and entities of the village
- Excursion to the beach (Tossa de Mar)
- Guided tour to Hostalric Castle/ Monastery of Breda
- Medieval cooking workshop
- Medieval arms workshop
Given that participants are already bringing the necessary changes of clothes, they are also required to wear comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear for field work. It is also necessary to bring a cap or a hat, sun cream, sleeping bag (a pillow if they wish), camping mattress for weekends, swimsuit, mosquito repellent …
