At the Work Camp, you will be building, designing and decorating the youth environment/ festival in collaboration with other volunteers, backed by local designers and architects.
Building is hard work, but incredibly fun and rewarding. The tasks will vary from day to day, but mainly manual work to prepare the framework for the silo. We’ll be assembling pre-built structures, pitching big top tents, setting up walls and preparing an event/festival for all the fabulous youngsters in the local society.
If you are into creative work or have a keen sense for branding you can take part in creating the visual identity for the silo as well. We need to build and design the brand, so it is appealing to our demographic, we also need to decorate and style the interior and exterior so that it underlines the rough industrial silo parts with a creative and young vibe.
However, you will have free time during the camp where you can enjoy the music and cozy atmosphere, meet the locals and enjoy the nature.
Accommodatie en maaltijden
We will have made all the sleeping arrangements before you arrive in Struer. We will set you up a local school where you will be living in 2 people dorm rooms. However as the weather will hopefully be much sunny and dry, you will also have the possibility to set up a tent outdoors. All you need to bring is a sleeping back and an inflatable mattress.
Kitchen + bathroom facilities:
You and the other participants are responsible for making your own breakfast throughout the Work Camp. However, all expenses are covered by the camp host. There is a local supermarket close to where you live and there will be a kitchen where you can cook.
You will have lunch and dinner during the days of constructing, and during the festival, you will receive two meal+drink vouchers each day, that you can use as you wish. In other words, there will be no extra expenses related to meals, unless you are in the mood for snacks, which you will have to pay for yourself. Vegetarian food will be available.
Locatie en vrije tijd
The camp is located in a cozy local area with beach and forest, so there is plenty of room for a lot of fun outdoor activities. The camp hosts would like to lend the groups some bikes so that you can all enjoy the lovely area together.
Unfortunately, we cannot take participants with disabilities due to safety risk working at the harbor side.
Much of the work will be outside and it is expected that you do have some experience with manual/practical work. It is also important that you bring practical clothing for all kinds of weather.
The Silo Youth Project is a non-profit, which makes our volunteers essential for creating a youth environment. Also, the project aims to promote social and personal development through cultural exchange.
You’ll meet new friends and have an experience of a lifetime!
The host and all our Work Camp leaders are fluent in English, which will be the language used during the camp. The camp will have two leaders and at least one will be present at all times. This means that sometimes they are both present and sometimes they will take shifts.
