This year, in collaboration with the local youth, you will continue the renovation of the redoubt by removing vegetation from certain walls and tunnels of the fort, and reinforcing some walls with masonry. Then, you will work on renovating the site’s exterieur wooden stairs. The whole project will be a great opportunity to get to know the local young people as you work, share certain meals, and organise activities together!
You will sleep on inflatable mattresses in dormitories in a recreation center. You’ll need to bring along a sleeping bag. Food will be provided, and meals will be prepared in turns by teams of volunteers and local young people. One kitchen is located in the recreation center and another, to be used to prepare lunches, is located in the fort. Showers are acessible in the recreation center.
Location: Montmagny, 15km North of Paris. The fort is located at the top of a small hill in the middle of a 110 hectare regional park, near some urban areas. Note– this project should not be used as a sightseeing trip to Paris. If you wish to visit Paris, you should arrive some days before, or reserve dates following, the workcamp.
Leisure activities: During the workcamp you will be able to take part in cultural outings and social exchanges organised with local partner associations to encourage deeper connections between the international volunteers and local young people. Other free-time activities will be organized collectively, depending on the wishes of the group and the available budget.
The Pinson Mound Redoubt is a military fortification dating from the late 19th century which was used to protect the city of Paris. Now, all year long, the redoubt welcomes and hosts local associations (apiculture, shooting, local wine making etc.). For more then 10 years, international workcamps have contributed to the restoration and renovation of the fort, and have brought together local youths and international volunteers. This workcamp is organised in partnership with four neighboring towns who all enage their local young people to participate actively in their projects and activities.
With this project, you will be actively working for the Sustainable Development Goal n°4 from the United Nations: Quality Education.
