The main works will be done in the wood. The volunteers will do various environmental works as well as renovation and construction works on the island and in the forests around the island. Possible tasks are removing bushes and invasive small tree species, collecting rubbish and wood, repairing works and so on. Volunteers should be prepared to be flexible and take part in any work that will support the foresters.
Accommodatie en maaltijden
Your accommodation will be very basic. You will sleep in three large tents on camp beds. The infrastructure on the island is very basic without electricity and warm water, not even a warm shower. There is no heating in the tents and on the island you have to use compost toilets. Even in summer, nights can be very cold. Please bring warm cloths and underwear with you and take care, your sleeping bag is warm enough (or bring an additional blanket). The accommodation is quite isolated so volunteers should come with ideas about how to entertain themselves in the evenings! The foresters of the project have built a nice and comfortable block house where the group will meet and eat. The group will cook for themselves. Volunteers will buy their food with the budget that will be provided for them.
You are welcome to bring your own ingredients with you.
Locatie en vrije tijd
The island is very isolated, and you have to be a real nature lover to participate in this project. You must use the ferry (and it stops running about 8 p.m.) and will row a boat every day. Please be prepared to not be able to visit Berlin very often! LIEPNITZSEE is one of the cleanest lakes in Brandenburg. Info: Info: http://www.liepnitzinsel.de
You must be able to swim!
CORONA-UPDATE: For safety and logistic reasons our project partner needed to cancel the 1st project (2.8 Nature Lovers #2) which was planned for June. For Nature Lovers #3 we need to wait, what the German government decides and how the pandemic is developing with the measurements. We will inform you as soon as we know any information.
On the island live many permanent campers during the summer. Please respect them.
During the hot season the danger of forest fires can be very high. Please be aware of it and take care while smoking cigarettes, having BBQ, leaving glass bottles outside...
We ask the volunteers to make sure that their travel is compatible with the most recent recommendations of health authorities with regards to the spread of the Coronavirus. In case you are travelling from or recently travelled through a higher risk area, please check the health recommendations of the country where the project takes place, as restrictions may apply (e.g. ban, quarantine, isolation). We will take the necessary health precautions for our projects, but please contact your sending organisation to get more information in case you have any concerns.
