Werk

Located on the banks of the Savieres canal which peacefully leads to the Lac du Bourget, come and discover the charm of this small village of character considered as the little Venice of Savoy. The old, fortified house of Chanaz, known as the "Grande Maison de Boigne", is an ancient 13th century building which still stands in the heart of the village. It now houses the services of the town hall. This remarkable heritage site has undergone various restorations in the past. The municipality, wishing to continue the work undertaken, has decided to team up with Concordia in order to carry out international volunteer workcamps whose mission will be to renovate a stone enclosure wall. As a continuation of previous workcamps, you will work on the final phase of the renovation of a stone wall surrounding the Maison de Boigne. Your work will consist in cleaning the wall (removal of vegetation, removal of plaster) followed by old masonry work (stone assembly, lime plastering). Finally, you will make a covering to protect the wall from bad weather. You will be supervised by a technical leader who will pass on his or her skills in ancient masonry. This project does not require any specific skills. However, you will have to handle stones that are already on the site. Your motivation and your ability to work in team will be your assets to carry out this project.

Accommodatie en maaltijden

You will be accommodated in individual tents at the Chanaz municipal campsite which is located in the heart of the village. You will have access to sanitary facilities and showers inside the campsite. A kitchen will be set up in a communal room equipped for the preparation of meals. This room can be used as a back-up in case of bad weather. The group will be supervised at all times by a team of leaders in charge of group life and technical aspects, in conjunction with our local partners. Together, you will take part in the organisation of group life (cleaning, activities, etc.) and in the preparation of meals, which will be prepared in turn, using products that will be bought nearby. As far as possible, we will favour local products as well as short circuits, taking care to respect the diets of all the participants.

Locatie en vrije tijd

Chanaz (510 inhabitants) is a historic village, classified as a small town of character. Beyond the monuments, many craftspeople have established their factories and shops there. It is a very dynamic and touristy commune, especially during the summer. The ViaRhona, a cycle path linking Geneva to the Mediterranean Sea, will give you the opportunity to discover Savoie along the water. The Savieres canal is also a great place for water sports. The Lac du Bourget is 3km away and offers supervised swimming. To get there, we will make bicycles available for short local trips, in line with our desire to develop soft mobility on this site. It is therefore strongly recommended that you know how to ride a bike. The proximity of Chambery (35 km) and Annecy (45 km) will allow you to discover a little more of Savoie and its traditions.

Organisatie

The commune of Chanaz welcomes us for the fourth year in a row for an international volunteer work camp. The direct proximity of the workcamp to the town hall, itself located in the centre of the village, offers this project a great deal of interaction with the local population who are concerned about the preservation of their heritage. You will be warmly welcomed by the municipal services and by the mayor of the village, who is passionate about Savoyard history.

Opmerkingen

Remember to bring gloves as well as clothes and shoes that do not fear dirt. Also remember to bring a warm sleeping bag as well as clothes suitable for rain (fleece, mackintosh...). Don't forget sun protection (hat, glasses, cream...) and your swimsuit for the numerous swims in the lake. Convivial times will be arranged in collaboration with our leaders and according to your wishes. If you would like to share a bit of your culture (cooking recipes, traditional stories, unusual objects, music...), don't hesitate to take a little piece of your country or region in your backpack. Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues arise on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.
