Do you dream of lavender fields and Provence? Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux offers you this postcard landscape while allowing you to get involved in a project that will allow you to dive into the history of the famous quarries of the commune... What do Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux, Paris, Lyon, Marseille or New York have in common? It's hard to believe that many of the buildings in these major cities still rest on foundations that originated in this small town in Drome. In the 19th century, the exploitation of the stones of the South was in full swing. The site had specific infrastructures for extracting and transporting blocks of stone to the Rhone river. The activity ceased after the Second World War and the site became natural again as the years went by. Today, the remains of the activity are still present and there is a desire to preserve them in order to pass on their unique history. Thanks to a great wealth of biodiversity, the former quarries could become a sensitive natural area soon. With respect for the site, you will work on the restoration of a section of a path that has been degraded by rainwater run-off. On a sloping, wooded and rocky site, you will create gutters to allow water to drain away, backfill with materials present on site and create facilities to make access safer. If you like nature, history and travelling, this is the place for you! You don't need any skills, but a good dose of motivation and good mood will make this project unforgettable.

Accommodatie en maaltijden

You will be accommodated in individual tents, near the municipal stadium 2003, located near sports facilities (football stadium, city stadium, skate park, water sports complex...) and close to the city centre. The site will only be used by the group, which will have keys to control access. The changing rooms will allow the organisation of non-mixed areas for sanitary facilities and showers. A room will be equipped for meals and for retreat in case of bad weather. You will have grassy and shaded areas that will also allow you to take full advantage of the outdoors. Together, you will participate in the organisation of the collective life (cleaning, activities...) and in the preparation of the meals, in turn, from products that will be bought nearby. As far as possible, we will favour local and seasonal products as well as short distribution channels, by respecting the diets of all the participants.

Locatie en vrije tijd

Located in the Drome department, in the Auvergne Rhone-Alpes region, the town of Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux (9,000 inhabitants) is situated in the Rhone Valley in an area with a Mediterranean climate. The Provencal Drome is a tourist region with many assets. In addition to a lot of sunshine, you will find a preserved living environment, a friendly and warm atmosphere in the narrow streets of the medieval city. Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux is the ideal place to discover the Tricastin, the Provencal Drome and the northern Vaucluse. The city itself, historically rich, has an important cultural heritage with its cathedral, its private mansions, and its archaeological collections. Moreover, in and around the town, gastronomy is in the spotlight with the Tricastin black truffle. Don't look for the three castles that gave their name to the town from a fanciful interpretation of the term tri castri. However, the town is rich in history, which today is at the heart of our construction project. You will have the opportunity to discover its secrets through guided tours and workshops. The cultural programme is also varied during the summer, and you will have the opportunity to take part in concerts, presentations of crafts and artistic trades... As for leisure activities, you will be able to access the many facilities in the commune and organise outings to discover the wider area (Gorges de l'Ardeche, Montelimar...).

This year, the town of Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux wanted to mark its commitment to live together. The current context is especially appropriate at a time when many people are wondering about their future and their place in society. There is a common will to reinforce solidarity and the fight against individualism which tends to corrupt our society. Throughout the year, Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux (SP3C for those who are used to it) is going to organise several events around civic-mindedness and citizenship. Thus, 2022 will be the year of the "3 Cs": 3 Cs to say that each citizen has his/her place in the city, 3 Cs to remind that each one has rights and duties, 3 Cs to explain and invite to more civic mindedness. It is in this context that a first international volunteer work camp will be organised in partnership with Concordia, because we are convinced that intercultural exchanges promote better living together, a better knowledge of oneself and of others, and contribute to the creation of a more respectful and more committed world.

Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues arise on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.

Remember to take gloves and suitable clothing for the work. You will be working on a steep site: it is essential to have hiking boots with a raised and notched upper, if possible reinforced to prevent the risk of injury. For leisure activities as well as for the work site, it is necessary to bring clothes adapted to the climate (the temperatures can be very hot in summer). Don't forget sun protection (hat or cap is essential, sunglasses with high protection factor, sun cream with high sun protection factor...) and a swimming costume for swimming in the water sports complex or river activities. For sleeping, think of taking a sleeping bag as well as a pillowcase (you will be able to put your things in it and easily turn it into a pillow). You should also bring a backpack (in addition to your luggage), comfortable trainers and a pair of flip-flops. It will also be useful to bring these essential accessories: a mobile phone charger, a water bottle, a set of bandages, a headlamp or pocket lamp. We will plan convivial times in collaboration with our camp leaders and according to your wishes. If you would like to share a bit of your culture (cooking recipes, traditional stories, unusual objects, music...), don't hesitate to put a bit of your country/region in your backpack.
