Landscape and village care are what to expect from this camp in the north of Germany. You work 6,5 hours a day, from Monday to Thursday. In the first week you work together with your international group in the Nordoer Heide, a nature reserve with inland dunes, heaths, dry grasslands and adjacent forest and green areas. Parts of the area are grazed with robust animals such as Galloways and Highlands as well as wild horses and goats to prevent bush encroachment and to suppress existing trees. The work you will be doing has the same purpose. You remove plants in order to ensure light and air for special plants and animals whose home the dunes and heaths are. You will, for example, remove black berries, which overgrow the rare healing plant arnica or the foreign North American bird cherry, which shade the habitat of butterflies. You will learn much about the protection of rare habitats, such as inland dunes and heather, in theory and practice. Some information about the nature reserve Nordoer Heide could be found here (only in German): In the second week you will also do various work in the community of Kremperheide. Among other things, you will collect rubbish and maintain green areas as well as playgrounds. In the nature reserve you will keep up walking trails by clearing of vegetation, maintaining of path signs and the grinding and painting of benches and tables. (only in German)

Accommodatie en maaltijden

You will live in a vacant flat of the municipality. You will sleep on air beds in two rooms, have a kitchen, a room for meals and meetings, and a toilet. Showers and other toilets are located 300m away at the gym. You will cook together. Money for food will be provided. Vegetarian or vegan meals are possible. Please state any intolerances during registration.

Locatie en vrije tijd

You will stay in the small village of Kremperheide (approx. 2500 inhabitants). With the bicycles at your disposal, you can make excursions into the surrounding area. For example to the beautiful nature reserve of the Nordoer Binnendünen, where you will work, or to the natural bathing lake 2 km away, where you can meet young locals. (only in German) The city centre of the neighbouring town Itzehoe, with its wide range of leisure activities, is only 6 km away by bike (20-30 minutes) or 15 minutes by bus. Buses run every hour from the next bus station (100 m away). (only in German) At long weekends (Friday to Sunday) a trip to the nearby North Sea and/or to Hamburg (both 50km) is worthwhile.

Covid Rules (may change depending on the course of the pandemic): 3G+: Participation possible for vaccinated, or recovered or fresh tested persons. ALL participants must arrive with an official negative rapid test (not older than 24 hours) or PCR test (not older than 48 hours). On arrival we will ask again to do a self-rapid test. Thereafter, the entire group must perform a rapid self-test at least every 72 hours. We will provide self-rapid tests for the arrival and the whole camp period! Subject to changes! You will receive more detailed information after confirming your registration and at least 3 weeks before the start of the camp with the specific info sheet for your camp.

You have to be able to cycle. You have to be fit, the work is physically demanding. Be sure to bring work clothes, sturdy shoes and sun protection (Sun cream, sun hat or similar, airy long-sleeved T-shirt). Please note: There is a special Teenage Fee of 150€ for international volunteers who applied under 18 in this camp.
