The work will be mainly manual and outdoor in all kinds of weather. You will prepare the site for the event (Friday and Saturday) and clean up afterwards. You will cut and rake grass, pick up branches and install wooden poles. You will also help with the transportation of material and installing an exhibition. Please bring suitable shoes and clothes you can work in. Study part: You will organize and take part in the traditional event called “Oskorušobraní'' which celebrates the unique local tree. You will be able to get to know different kinds of local food and products (including traditional Oskoruse spirits) and learn more about local production, organic farming, herding sheep, and the history and natural potential of the region.

Accommodatie en maaltijden

You will sleep in the log cabins on your own camping mats. Please don’t forget to bring a sleeping bag and a mat! You will prepare your own meals together as a group.

Locatie en vrije tijd

location: Tvarozna Lhota (bus stop in the village, next to train stop Straznice). The nearby towns are Straznice (5 km distance) and Uherske Hradiste (30 km). The region is famous for its folk traditions and beautiful countryside. Leisure time: On Sunday, you can go on a trip to various sites of interest in the region, such as the regional cities of Straznice or Skalice, Moravian wine cellars, the Bata canal, or you can go hiking in the local spectacular countryside.

This weekend workcamp will take place in a small Moravian village of Tvarozna Lhota, situated in the White Carpathian Mountains in cooperation with the local NGO “INEX-SDA Bile Karpaty”. This branch of INEX is active in sustainable rural development, environmental education, and permaculture projects. In Tvarozna Lhota, they run a museum of “oskoruse” (a local unique fruit) and open-air leisure and educational centre Cottage Travicna. The aim of this workcamp is to get the site ready for a traditional event celebrating the oskoruse trees and fruits called “Oskorusobrani”. At this workcamp, you will actively contribute to the achievement of UN SDG11 Sustainable Cities and Communities.

What to bring: a warm sleeping bag, a camping mat, warm working (outdoor) clothes, a good mood and a willingness to meet others. Due to the limited outgoing resources of INEX-SDA, we kindly ask participants to contribute 5 EUR towards the costs of the general incoming administration of our workcamps. The fee will be collected upon arrival.

Since the Oskoruse Festival takes place on Saturday, we need to start getting the place ready already on Friday. Therefore, please note that you need to arrive at Tvarozna Lhota at 1 PM on Friday – not later! This workcamp is also suitable for volunteers with visual impairments/blindness, hearing impairments/deafness, who have mild mental health issues, and who have lighter types of disadvantages - social, economic, and health.
