EN : If you register for this project, you will have the opportunity to discover, with a professional technical supervisor, the basics of traditional lime masonry and stone cutting!
You will participate in works on two different spaces of the Convent. First, at the bottom of the large Convent park, the enclosure wall is damaged in several places, as you can see in the photo: these portions of the wall will have to be rebuilt with stones and lime. Then, at the level of the old cloister, several small holes in a wall of the main building of the convent will have to be filled with freestone.
FR : Si tu t'inscris sur ce projet, tu auras l'opportunité de découvrir, avec un·e encadrant·e technique professionnel·le, les bases de la maçonnerie traditionnelle à la chaux et de la taille de pierre !
Tu participeras à des travaux sur deux différents espaces du Couvent. D'abord, au fond du grand parc du Couvent, le mur de clôture est abîmé à plusieurs endroit, comme tu peux le voir sur la photo : il faudra rebâtir ces portions de mur avec des pierres et de la chaux. Ensuite, au niveaux de l'ancien cloître, plusieurs petits trous dans un mur du bâtiment principal du couvent devront être rebouchés avec des pierres de taille.
EN : If you like unusual accommodation, this site is for you! You will be accommodated directly in the convent, in rooms that were used by the nuns and which are still in good condition. There are several between 2 and 5 beds per room, with mattresses (don't forget to bring a sleeping bag!). A kitchen and toilets are accessible in the convent. A shower may be installed upstream of the site. If not, you will have to shower in a gymnasium a few steps from the convent. And you will have access to the convent's large park, with shaded areas, a small chapel, a vegetable garden and a pond: an idyllic setting!
The volunteers, who will be actors and actresses of their stay, will each participate in the daily tasks (shopping, cooking, storage and cleaning ...), the organization of the rotation will be done with the animation team which is there to ensure the smooth running, the objective is to gain autonomy and that everyone acts individually to allow a good collective functioning!
All together, you will think about how to work, eat, have fun, get around, visit the region in the most respectful way for the environment and for each other.
FR : Si tu aimes les hébérgements insolites, ce chantier est fait pour toi ! Tu seras hebergé·e directement dans le couvent, dans des chambres qui servaient aux religieuses et qui sont encore en bon état. Il y a plusieurs entre 2 et 5 lits par chambre, avec des matelas (n'oublie pas de ramenr un sac de couchage !). Une cuisine et des toilettes sont accessibles dans le couvent. Une douche sera peut-être installée en amont du chantier. Si non, il faudra aller se doucher dans un gymnase à quelques pas du couvent. Et vous aurez accès au grand parc du couvent, avec des espaces d'ombre, une petite chapelle, un potager et un bassin d'eau : un cadre idyllique !
Les bénévoles, qui seront acteurs et actrices de leur séjour, participeront chacun·e·s aux taches quotidiennes (courses, cuisine, rangement et nettoyage... ), l'organisation du roulement sera fait avec l'équipe d'animation qui est là pour veiller au bon déroulement, l'objectif est de gagner en autonomie et que chacun·e agisse individuellement pour permettre un bon fonctionnement collectif !
Tou·te·s ensemble, vous réfléchirez à comment travailler, se nourrir, s'amuser, se déplacer, visiter la région de la façon la plus respectueuse de l'environnement et de l'autre.
EN : The convent is located in the town of Joinville, a small town of 3000 inhabitants, with all amenities. Joinville is a city full of history and heritage: there is a medieval castle, a large Renaissance castle and many remarkable buildings in the center of the town. It is because they are aware of this rich heritage that the inhabitants of Joinville invest every year to restore it. They will be delighted to introduce you to their town and the surrounding area!
About thirty kilometers away: the Lac du Der, a very large body of water renowned for its swimming and water sports activities.
The nearest large town is also about thirty kilometers away: it is Saint-Dizier. You will have a minibus to get around in the evening or on weekends, but the local volunteers will also be very happy to offer you visits and festive events around Joinville.
FR : Le Couvent est situé dans le centre ville de Joinville, une petite ville de 3000 habitant·e·s, avec toutes les commodités. Joinville est une ville pleine d'hitoire et de patrimoine : on y trouve un château médiaval, un grand château de la renaissance et de multiples bâtiments remarquables au centre du bourg. C'est parce qu'il·elle·s sont conscient·e·s de ce patrimoine riche, que les habitant·e·s de Joinville s'investissent chaque année pour le restaurer. Il·elle·s seront ravi·e·s de te faire découvrir leur commune et les environs !
A une trentaine de kilomètres : le Lac du Der, très grande étendue d'eau réputée pour ses activités de baignades et loisirs nautiques.
La grande ville la plus proche est à une trentaine de kilomètre également : il s'agit de Saint-Dizier. Vous aurez un minibus pour vous déplacer en soirée ou les week-ends, mais les bénévoles locaux seront aussi très content·e·s de vous proposer des visites et événements festifs autour de Joinville.
EN : This year, we invite you to the Couvent des Annonciades Célestes in Joinville! Built in the 16th century, it was completely destroyed by fire, then rebuilt in 1760. Nuns lived there until 1969. Today the Convent, a building of remarkable architecture, needs to be restored! Thus, since 2019, a dozen volunteers from Joinville have created an association to safeguard the Convent. Several workcamps have already taken place, but this year, local volunteers wanted to widen the borders: they and they want to welcome a group of international volunteers! Come join them this summer!
FR : Cette année, nous te donnons rendez-vous au Couvent des Annonciades Célestes à Joinville ! Construit au 16ème siècle, il a été complétement détruit par un incendie, puis reconstruit en 1760. Des religieuses y ont vécu jusqu'en 1969. Aujourd'hui le Couvent, bâtiment d'une architecture remarquable, a besoin d'être restauré. Ainsi, depuis 2019, une dizaines de bénévoles de Joinville ont créé une association pour sauvegarder le couvent. Plusieurs chantiers ont déjà eu lieu, mais cette année, les bénévoles locaux ont voulu élargir les frontières : ils et elles souhaitent accueillir un groupe de bénévoles internationaux ! Viens les rejoindre cet été !

Unfortunately the accommodation and works sites are not accessible to wheelchairs.
