The volunteers will participate with the team in the preparation and the arrangement of a Gallo-Roman festival in order to make the public discover the Gallo-Roman expertise and crafts. Essentially the work consits of the assemblying and dismantling of the infrastructures for this event. In connection with this festival, the volunteers will also work on the maintenance of the site and the gardens. During the weekend of the festival, the volunteers will help the team but will also be able to enjoy the different workshops. In case of bad weather, interior work will be scheduled (cob constructions, maintenance of historic buildings).
The volunteers will have 2 days off will during the project. During the weekend of the festival, volunteers will also have some spare time.
Accommodation in tents at the garden of the Archaeological Center. Basic comfort, volunteers will have to bring their own tent, a sleeping bag and a mattress. Toilets and showers inside the building and an outdoor shower will be available.
Rochefort is a small city situated in the south of Belgium, in the Province of Namur. During leisure time, different outdoor activities are possible: walks in the forest, visit of caves, visit of a castle, kayaking, animal reserve…
The Archeopark “Malagne” is an interpretation center of the Gallo-Roman rural civilization and a museum. Open since 1996, the Archeopark is placed in a Gallo-Roman villa, built nearly 2000 years ago, it is formed by an ancient farm with its buildings and grounds.
Malagne is a non- profit organization with the aim of helping to grasp archeology and understand the heritage of our Gallo-Roman ancestors. Malagne reconstitutes the daily activities of a villa of the 1st century of our Era: crafts, agriculture, iron and fire, cooking. Malagne has also developed a wide range of interactive workshops. Several festive weekends punctuate the season, including a Gallo-Roman festival of the 15th and 16th July.
The work can be quite physical. Volunteers will have access to a kitchen to prepare their own meals. Accommodation conditions are quite basic.
Additional fee: Many SCI workcamps will have an additional fee of €50.00. This will cover - local hosting costs; International insurance costs of the volunteer; a small travel fund to enable disadvantaged volunteers to join projects; administration costs of SCI International.
If you apply through an SCI branch, the fee will be included in the fee you pay to your sending branch. If you apply through a partner organisation you will pay the fee on arrival at the project; direct to the hosting branch or through a PayPal transfer system. When accepted on the project the host branch will give you more details of the various payment options.
