“Archeology in Garraf: Living Prehistory” it’s a camp related with the archeological heritage that plans actions to preserve and maintain trough experimental archeology techniques the Cova de Can Sadurní and their surroundings.
The work tasks in the camp is divided into 2 big blocks:
- The first block is “Preservation and maintenance of the archaeological site and surroundings”, into this block the participants will do the maintenance of the “antic camí del moliner”, digging into the “forn de calç” and drystone techniques.
- The second block is “Experimental archeologism”, into this block the participants will make archeological work through experimental methods, like working with clay, minerals (silex, quartz...), and vegetable fabric.
During the first day, dedicated to technical work, reconnaissance tasks will be carried out in the areas of work, the planning of the same, the proposed actions, the methodology and the tools to be used, as well as motivational activities and clarification of objectives.
On the last day of technical work, recognition and evaluation tasks will also be carried out for the different jobs carried out.
The participants of the work camp will be installed in the school of Begues, “Sant Cristòfor School”, in the centre of the village of Begues, 30 km far from Barcelona.
They are going to use a school multifunctional area, sleep indoors and mattresses will be provided. They are going to eat outdoors and a catering service will serve the food. There will be vegetarian and vegan options and as many menu adaptations as needed.
There are 2 toilets and showers separated by gender and with hot water. The cleaning service is maintained throughout the month of July contracted by the City Council, and it takes care of the toilets, showers and dining room. The service groups of the work site are in charge of the rest of the facilities used.
Begues is a municipality in the comarca of Baix Llobregat in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated in the south-west of the comarca, and its municipal territory covers most of the Garraf massif including the peaks of el Montau (658 m) and LaMorella (594 m). Begues is an important tourist centre, and it is connected with Avinyonet del Penedès and with Gavà by a local road.
Free time and leisure activities will include group games, workshops and cultural activities in order to learn more about Catalan culture and traditions and the area. Moreover, these activities be related with social issues and will give the change to the participants to express their ideas and thoughts about them.
Some other activities will be:
• The Timbalers de Begues organize a workshop to introduce volunteers to the festive atmosphere.
• "Castells": with "Els Encantats de Begues", which welcomes the volunteers and explains the
tradition of castles in Catalonia.
• Dinner with the 639 youth association that will allow the volunteers to connect with people from the village of similar ages and interests and share experiences.
• Participation in the nocturnal ballad of "Agrupació sardanista".
• Collaboration in the traditional dance event organized by "Òmnium Cultural".
• Outdoor recreational activities: games, excursions, orienteering, archery...
Some of the leisure and cultural activities will take place outside the town of Begues, in this way
that the participants can get to know the nearest territory and important tourist destinations such as city of Barcelona. The most prominent outputs are the following:
• Route to the Garraf beach: In this itinerary we want to make known the natural characteristics of a very particular Natural Park, such as the Garraf, with an extraordinary geological formation. The itineraries that pass through the main areas of chasms and karst erosion in the area will be covered and will end with a swim on the beach.
• Excursion to Barcelona: one-day visit where you will visit some of the most emblematic museums, such as the MAC, the MNAC or the MHUBA.
Fundació Catalana de l’Esplai has been in "Educating children and youth, strengthening leisure organizations and the third sector, improving the environment and promoting social inclusion and citizenship, with a desire for change” since over 30 years ago. Fundació Catalana de l’Esplai organizes a wide range of leisure time education activities such activities for children, school camps, summer camps, work camps, training for trainers, etc. In 2018 Fundesplai projects reached 258.656 people and more than 600 took part in work camps.
The archaeological work carried out during the work camp will allow progress in the research project of the archaeological site in which other volunteers participate during the year and will help to reveal the importance of the cave in the population of Begues.
In order to ensure a good temporary integration in the village and to know the most relevant aspects of the activity in the life of Begues, the organisation works so that young people go in contact with their people, their associative fabric and their institutions, organizing activities together with other entities or receiving training or workshops by these.

Jongeren onder 18 jaar moeten voor vertrek verplicht een training volgen. De kosten hiervoor zijn € 50 euro en worden apart in rekening gebracht.
