In the heart of Occitany, close to Toulouse, is Auzielle, a small semi-rural village built in traditional red bricks.
You will renovate Auzielle’s dovecote (pigeon house). The building's surroundings are used for sports and leisure. For example, kids can play there, and the inhabitants can organize yoga sessions. The park near the dovecote is a place for celebrations and local associative events.
You will renew the dovecote external walls, which at the moment cover the original and traditional bricks, in order to enhance this typical red bricks from the region. In this workcamp, you will be accompanied by a technical leader and you will learn and practice the bases of masonry techniques.
This summer, there are two international workcamps in Auzielle. You will form part of the first group. Another team of volunteers will continue your work in August.
During free time there will be activities to discover Toulouse and the neighboring areas.
You will be accommodated in tents – bring your sleeping bags – and will have access to showers, toilets, and a kitchen in the local sport association’s building. The campsite is a few yards away from the houses and provides space for the group. The group will share the cleaning tasks and prepare meals together. You will prepare the meals in shifts and participate in the organization of the collective life (planning, cleaning, shopping, etc.). We will encourage the purchase of local and seasonal products.
Auzielle is in the Haute-Garonne County, south-west of France, which includes the city of Toulouse. Although endangered by urban growth, the beauty and diversity of the county’s countryside presents a great historical, architectural and environmental interest. Outdoors activities such as hiking, archeology visits, rafting are possible.
Around 1500 inhabitants live in Auzielle and can benefit from ecological, social and heritage projects that have enhanced the quality of life. Toulouse, located about 15 kilometers away, and its area are home to many citizen organizations that keep culture and nature alive.
Foreigners from the European Union must bring their personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and all participants must bring their insurance certificate. If health issues arise during the program, volunteers will need to cover all costs; they will be reimbursed upon their return to their home country.
Bring working clothes, gloves, and closed shoes as well as your sleeping bag. To enjoy certain outdoor activities, bring your trekking shoes and bathing suits. Feel free to bring activities from home such as photos, games, musical instruments, etc.
