We offer to teach you how to restore a wooden hut on this workcamp. A skill that could be useful to you!
We take you to a small village in the Combrailles region, where your objective will be to finish restoring a large and atypical wooden house, called the Adrian hut. There are only two huts like this in the Auvergne! You will participate in two different missions. Inside the hut, you will rebuild the wooden stage and change the parquet floor. Thanks to your help, the inhabitants will have a brand new hut, which will become a cultural space for exhibitions and events!
Working alongside a technical leader, you will learn to use hand and power tools, to do DIY and to paint. The tasks will be diverse and your objective will be to achieve an aesthetic and sustainable workcamp.
You will be accompanied by two camp leaders throughout your stay.
The camp will be set up in the village. You will sleep in individual tents, on a grassy area near the sanitary facilities and showers at your disposal. Group life will be organised in a room adjoining the Adrian hut, where you will be able to cook and have meals. This room will be reserved for your group.
The group will be sharing the cleaning chores and preparing meals together. The budget will be allocated to the group leader and you will participate in the preparation of meals, prioritizing products from the market and local producers.
There is no WIFI but you should be able to access internet through the hotspot of local volunteers. Handwashing of laundry.
The village of Saint-Maigner is a small haven of peace of 200 folks, where you will soon meet the inhabitants, your site will not go unnoticed!
You will discover the wild and natural region of the Combrailles, located in the heart of the Auvergne, with a high granite plateau, Volcanoes and the natural Sioule river. During your stay, you will enjoy the town's summery energy and the countryside right on its doorstep (hiking, swimming in the lakes, local party, etc.).
This house has an interesting history. Originally it was used as a camp for soldiers in the First World War. Later it was used for Youth Workshops during the Second World War. When the war ended, the hut was made available to the village as a "youth centre".
The inhabitants wished to give a new life to this barrack and to do so, an international workcamp from Concordia was welcomed in 2014 to start the work. Thus, for symbolic purposes, two international workcamps will have framed the period of renovation of the Adrian hut, at the start and at the end of the work.
Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues arise on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.
Bring work clothes, walking boots, a backpack and a swim suit. Nights can be chilly, so bring warm clothes and a good sleeping bag. You can also bring recipes from your home country, musical instruments and games. You will get around Saint-Maigner by foot, car and occasionally in minibus.
