The project takes place in Vicchio, 35 kilometers from Florence, where the Podere Aia Santa of the nonprofit association Le C.A.S.E. has been located since 2007. It is run by a number of volunteer families who have chosen to live communally and with sober lifestyles, without owning the facilities. The association brings together five experiences of family homes, one of which is Podere Aia Santa, which has been hosting asylum seekers and other people in need of shelter since fall 2008 and is run by three volunteer families, two of whom are residents.The adults of the families have jobs outside the communities and contribute their volunteer labor to the renovations of the buildings, agricultural management and hosting activities. In addition to hosting, organic farming activities are conducted on the 16 hectares of land and training and experimentation activities on socially responsible and environmentally sustainable lifestyles.
