At the beginning of the camp there will be a day of introductions and getting to know the place with team building activities to promote a good group atmosphere. Each activity will be preceded by an explanation of the meaning of the activity and specifics related to the history, place and context.Vegetable growing, fruit and vegetable picking and processing, plant pruning, olive picking, small manual and art projects. Volunteers will help with the day-to-day management of the land. Specific activities may arise from possible opportunities that emerge in the coming months or from specific skills/aptitudes of the volunteers.Tasks can be organised in small groups (2-3 people) who take turns in activities (gardening, cooking, picking and processing fruit,..). Before work starts in the morning, we all meet for a collective good morning and to organise the day. Activities last from 9:00 am to 2 pm. Lunch is prepared by the volunteers. Afternoons are free. In the evenings, collective activities are encouraged, perhaps around a campfire or with games and musical instruments.Study session - Alice will introduce the idea behind the A Naca project by sharing her personal experience and vision of how to empower rural areas.
There will be four glamping tents, each 5m in diameter, with real beds or inflatable mattresses inside. The toilet currently available is a composting toilet.Water comes from a well, and it s possible to fill tanks for personal use. The solar shower is outside. Drinking water comes from public wells provided by the town of Antillo. The warehouse is the only indoor space where cooking will take place and is fully equipped. It is possible to cook with gas or wood.Electricity is only available in the camp, which is also where cooking takes place and is fully equipped. It is possible to cook with gas or wood through an economical stove. There is a canopy to take shelter from the rain.
The municipality of Limina is about 15 minutes by car from S.Alessio/S.Teresa di Riva, which are easily reached by train. Two daily buses (Jonica trasporti) arrive in the vicinity of the camp site.Nearby are the Ranciara Gorges, which you can visit or take a refreshing swim in, if the season permits; the Sanctuary of Mount Kalfa (1000 m with a view of Etna) and small villages. By bus or by internal arrangement among volunteers and host it is possible to reach the villages on the coast (S.Alessio, S.Teresa di Riva) or visit Savoca and Taormina. If you are interested in trekking and nature walks, there are many suggestive paths around here.
The workcamp will be hosted by Alice, who has recently launched her project to create the A Naca agri-bike camp in the town of Limina, in the province of Messina. The project aims to revitalise Sicily s rural areas and protect them from being destroyed by fire. The A Naca agri-bike camp is located on a non-intensive farm in an unspoilt and sparsely populated area where wolunteers can learn about agriculture and sustainability. It focuses on environmental sustainability, aims to connect people with nature and also provides a place for bikers to stop or repair their bikes, as well as welcoming hikers.
