Your task with the forestry and nature conservation department of the Alb-Donau district is to maintain or restore a wetland biotope (pond and watercourses), to maintain a juniper heath and rough grassland near Mochental. You cut the pond free, repair the dam if necessary and remove overgrown creepers from the pond so that many animal and plant species can spread there again. Juniper heaths developed here in the past through grazing with sheep and goats and are protected as the most species-rich biotopes in Central Europe. They are in danger of becoming wooded again. You will remove shrubs and trees to create space and light for the rare plant species, insects and birds that live there. You will be guided by the forest ranger, a forestry master and forestry trainees.
Group room on the grounds of Mochental Castle with camp beds, you all sleep in one room, separate common room with kitchen, shared with staff on siteYou cook together. Money for the food shopping is provided to you. Vegetarian or vegan meals are possible. Please indicate any allergies when registering.
You live secluded, can sit in the evening at the campfire. In the immediate vicinity (up to 35 km): activities in the biosphere area Swabian Alb, visit the beer culture town of Ehingen, Laichingen deep cave and climbing forest, canoeing on the Great Lauter, open-air museum Kürnbach, Ulm with the world-famous cathedral. In the further surroundings (up to approx. 150 km): Lake Constance, Stuttgart, Augsburg.
camp location: Ehningen (Donau), Baden-Württemberg; Ulm 40 km, Stuttgart 100 km
