Homberg (Efze) is a beautiful, historic half-timbered town on the German Fairytale Route and an important Reformation town in Hesse. High above the roofs of the town lies the "Hohenburg", a medieval castle ruin, with a great view over the town and a castle restaurant. Our cooperation partner, the town of Homberg, has again prepared something for you. This year you will carry out various nature conservation activities on the castle hill, in the Efze meadows and in the Lochbach gorge. Among other things, you will cut paths in the beautiful landscape, work on the routing, set up benches and tables and restore barbecue huts. You will work together with your friendly instructors, who will explain the work to you in more detail. The local community is looking forward to meeting you and working with you
You cook together. Money for the food shopping is provided to you. Vegetarian or vegan meals are possible. Please indicate any allergies when registering. You will be staying in a wonderful new youth centre.
Homberg (Efze) is a very lovely historical town with cafes, pubs and restaurants. When the weather is nice you can use the local outdoor swimming pool for free. You will receive a tour of the town. Nature lovers can visit a nearby wildlife park or go hiking. The larger cities of Kassel, Marburg and Frankfurt are not too far away – you could take a day-trip to visit them at the weekends
project location: Homberg (Efze), Wabern, Hesse; Kassel 45 km. Marburg 65 km, Frankfurt 150 km
The ijgd has been organising volunteer service programmes since 1949. We are an independent, non-profit association for international youth work, a recognised independent youth welfare organisation, and one of the largest and oldest workcamp organisations in Germany. We give them the opportunity to be creative, act in solidarity, take responsibility for themselves, and discover their own true potential and strengths. Our principles: Ecological learning, voluntary contribution, self-organisation, social development, intercultural learning, gender equality, anti-racism/anti-discrimination and political education.
