The small town of Trassem is located in the border triangle of France, Germany and Luxembourg, and thus in the heart of Europe. With your help, we are continuing to build the various components of our natural history station, the "Forest Experience Centre Trassem". The focus is on work such as the completion of natural stone dry stone walls. Together with young people from the region, we maintain the forest adventure trail and the attractive freeride and mountain bike trails. In addition, there is a wide range of work on a forest hut in the nearby "Black Forest High", including the construction of an organic compost toilet and much more. You can not only learn a lot about the forest and nature and take part in a wide range of nature activities, but you can also help to shape them.
You will be staying in a community centre in Trassem. The group will prepare and cook meals together. Money for the food shopping is provided to you. Vegetarian or vegan meals are possible. Please indicate any allergies when registering.
Trassem is close to the wonderful wine town of Saarburg, with its historical castle ruins and picturesque old town, complete with a waterfall. As well as interesting sights, there are also numerous free time opportunities in Saarburg, such as the street cafés, an outdoor swimming pool and a park for birds of prey. You also have the opportunity to canoe along the Saar river and to climb the steep cliffs of Saartal. Besides this, you could take a trip to the nearby cities of Trier or Saarbrucken, or even to Luxembourg or France.
camp location: Trassem, Rhineland-Palatinate; 4 km from Saarburg, 30 km from Trier, 40 km from Luxembourg City, 20 km from France
The ijgd has been organising volunteer service programmes since 1949. We are an independent, non-profit association for international youth work, a recognised independent youth welfare organisation, and one of the largest and oldest workcamp organisations in Germany. Each year, we assist around 5,000 young people into volunteer work in Germany and abroad. We give them the opportunity to be creative, act in solidarity, take responsibility for themselves, and discover their own true potential and strengths. Our principles: Ecological learning, voluntary contribution, self-organisation, social development, intercultural learning, gender equality, anti-racism/anti-discrimination and political education
